he's an expiring and could be a backup. He's still a fine shooter.
I don't use gifs... but that Jennifer Lawrence gif where she's saying "Ok" in a sarcastic manner fits perfectly here.

Furthermore... both contracts we took on are expiring. Plus we got a beloved second round pick! We are currently in a position where we have the option to both try to win now and rebuild. We'll still have our #1 pick to build with and we can still sign young players this offseason. It's not bad position to be in at all.

Im really confused as to how people think this is an *awful* trade. I can get being ambivalent about it but Im seeing serious hyperbole in Knicks PER-loving fan land.
It has it's pros and cons . It could be a trade that works out for one team , for both teams or no teams . It's too early to say and the Knicks can make a few more moves too. It's way too early to judge this

Calderon sucked, but was way more of a scapegoat for other glaring issues than people would like to admit.

If your PG is consistently getting broke down on the defensive end night in night out, it trickles on down. That was by far the biggest & most glaring hole we had last season. PG's would have career nights on us full well knowing they were gonna destroy Calderon & attacking him from the outset.

These are the sorts of moves I have no problem with Phil making. Does it eat into our cap space? Of course, but with the projected cap next year that'd be sacrificing around 7 or 8% of our cap space to add another young developing piece. You can take an upside player at that range and work them into a role.

100% would take Hawes. Bearable cap hit, serviceable backup, and 2 year deal. 2nd of which is a player option. For pick 22? Sign me up personally.

Rose isnt a good defender either and we just lost our best defensive player. Just keep that in mind too.

I definitely understand that but at least Rose can move his feet better than the statue known as Jose Calderon. He got cooked night it night out & that was the most frustrating part . RoLo's replaceable; even if it's Joakim Noah who when healthy's a better defender & rebounder than him.

I mean everyone on the Knicks is basically replaceable(not counting Porz for now) it's just a matter of the organization seeing that. My concern is they dont.
