Right saying "Afflalo needs to step up and do more than pretend to be iso Melo when Melo is out. I'd like to think that he's supposed to be the second option out there and thus should be trying to get Kristaps going like Melo tries to" is saying that iso is all he does and that he doesn't try to get KP going, both of which are false. Passing = more than iso. Passing = trying to get KP (and others) going.
if you're saying all passes are the same then I'm not gonna argue with you. A pass off a pick above the foul line leading to a mismatch is different from a pass to a player who is in no better of a position than you are. A majority of the time that Afflalo is catching the ball and has to make a decision, it results in him setting himself up for a shot. He'll post up and force up a fadeaway or do some dribble penetration and try for a lay-up. He doesn't really pass off of post-ups like Melo does, nor does he make cuts to lead to better assist opportunities. He gets assists usually as a result of his teammates' hockey assists...not because of him creating mismatches. I'd like to pull up videos to prove this, but I don't really feel like it. You can just watch his decision making when he's the main offensive player on the court and see for yourself. Melo can post-up and pass out, and it'll lead to him scoring or him getting an assist. AA likes to post up, but if he doesn't have a size advantage, he'll go up and miss because he's not looking for a teammate to set up a better score. He's good enough that sometimes he'll get away with it. But in games like that L against OKC, you can see that it'll potentially cost us games
Edit: And I'm not saying this to discredit AA, I really like his game when he has the right lineups around him. I just feel that there is a specific problem that crops up when he's asked to be the number one option. Obviously, if we had more talent this wouldn't be that big of an issue to me
