Y'all already on your way there. Had a 60 win season playing in a weak ass east, and now the east is rising again and y'all can barely compete

Outchea struggling against a young Kristaps and a developing Knicks team, what y'all gonna do in 3 years when we're peaking?

Short Version: The first half looked like it was gonna be the culmination of a few months of Melo/KP building an insane rapport and chemistry. The entire team was feeding off of their energy and the Knicks looked poised to run another opponent out of the building like they did the Bucks; except this opponent is higher on the totem pole than the Bucks. Then the "same ole cursed Knicks" scenario came into play and a referee literally took Melo out of the game (not on purpose). KP in what I can only assume was an attempt to step up, picked up some bad fouls and we were left without our two main cogs for the night. That's when something happened that you don't really expect as a Knicks fan. Guys stepped up...AA was huge, D-Will made plays, RoLo was a presence, Lance couldn't get going offensively but did little things and Jerian Grant went out there and showed his potential for the first time in a long time. It was a spectacular win because of the character it showed. I gotta admit, I've dogged Fish a LOT but this reminded me of a quote after the Spurs game where he said the guys learned that they have to leave it all out there every night to win...and they did that last night.

Melo: That ref needs to stay out of NY for the rest of 2016, are you kidding me guy!? Anyway, Melo was on his way to another dominant game where he leads the Knicks all over the floor. 17,4 and 3 on 7-10 shooting in 18 minutes. His awareness and passing was really impressive and with KP dominating, Melo found himself isolated against Crowder too often for any single defender. Kawhi Leonard received more help defense last week than Jae was getting and so...7-10 17 points...if KP or AA is going off and Melo is passing like he was in this one; that'll happen more often and Melo will smoke dudes...of course that's assuming the sprain ankle heals quickly and doesn't slow Melo down. I can't say it enough, screw the refs.

KP: He came out to start the game and seemed to understand the importance of the moment. He shot the three ball, had a put back and put up I believe 16 points in that first quarter. He also moved the ball well, not playing greedy basketball but staying aggressive. He didn't hit the boards like he's apt to on most nights, but the C's big men all pulled him away from the basket and out of position to rebound like he can. The second half, the C's thought they were clever putting Marcus Smart on KP and made dude look like a child whenever he shot over the guy. Smart wasn't out of position, he had his hands up to challenge and KP just shot right over him. Defensively, KP had moments of brilliance but he also fell asleep on Celtic bigs leaking out for long jumpers at times and he was overzealous, picking up some bad fouls including the last one. Now that we've won though, I'm good with him picking up an important lesson about fine tuning his aggression. Also, Sullinger's too damned fat for this kid to guard in the post right now, that's three or four games straight where opposing coaches attack him with a big body that has post moves and it's effective. Not every team will have the personnel to do that, but it's something to monitor bc the only fix is strength and improving his instincts; he can only improve one of those two in season. 10-18 for 26 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks (I counted three), 2 steals...and the room for improvement is still there. God bless Clarence Gaines and PJax for putting their necks out there on this guy.

RoLo: Like KP, RoLo was near invisible on boards because of how far out the C's bigs can drag their men. But when KP sat and Melo was injured, RoLo picked up his intensity and made plays on the glass to the tune of 5 second half boards. The C's actually did a pretty good job fighting him off deep post position in spurts, but he kept attacking and turned in some nice plays regardless. 6-7 15 points, 5 boards, 1 assist is a nice statline but doesn't really tell you how effective he was. He sat the entire second quarter with foul trouble and became a fourth quarter spark defensively after Sullinger had really gone at KP and got him in foul trouble. This was a major step up game for him and only playing 26 minutes means hopefully he's fresh to fight with his brother.

AA: So Melo's out, KP's in foul trouble and AA was all but invisible in the first half...but when we needed a leader, he showed why that 8 million dollar price tag was a better bargain than the movie bin at Walmart. He couldn't really get his jumper going, but he saw smaller defenders and posted them up for close, easy looks. Budenholzer's response was to put bigger bodies on him in Crowder (a great defender) and Turner (not great but big), neither of whom changed a damned thing. 9 for 18 after a rough first half, 24 points mostly in the second half, 3 boards an assist and trips to the line because the little guys had no other answers. He actually deserved a couple of and-one's too. The rookies might blind you to how big he was, don't let that happen. He was the one that held things down with our main cogs out after looking like he was gonna be weak.

Jose: Isaiah Thomas is a tough match-up for anybody, but he really set off to abuse poor Calderon. It was not pretty how he defended last night but it wasn't very fair that Fish left him on a guy that quick so long. Jose shot twice in 30 minutes, can't have that against a guy whose that short and such a poor defender. He did however make some nifty passes and he's getting pretty good at chasing long rebounds. 0,5 and 3. He wasn't good last night.

Jerian Grant: This was Grant when his instincts take over. He used the step back to make space when the shot clock ran low and sunk a couple, left wide open from three he shot with actual confidence and abused every defender simply by calling picks over and playing his game. The triangle's minimal use of high pick and roll hides the kid's biggest strengths because even if players try to go under, his vision and explosiveness can take advantage of space (like on the running jumper against Marcus Smart late or finding AA in the deep post during that same sequence). In this one, Fish let him do what he does best and the reward was a series of Knicks baskets that either he scored or created for others. It was mesmerizing to watch him utilize screens or use dribble fakes to push his man into a screen he wasn't gonna use. 16, 8, 1 and 1 on 5-6 shooting. 16 points in 6 attempts is beautiful. He also defended Thomas better than any other Knick player though he had limited opportunities (the steal and block both came matched against IT).

D-Will: He came in and attacked the boards like he has been lately and it was a tremendous help. His jumper was a struggle, but most of 'em came with low shot clock situations where he had to force it. Inside, he was an absolute terror, drawing fouls and finishing everything he got besides the baseline cut where Avery Bradley pretty clearly fouled him. He posted a double double last night and nobody's gonna talk much about it with the rest of these guys performing so well. 15 and 10 including a couple of late dunks to help hold on late. Playing him with Jose, AA, Melo and KP continues to show really nice, tangible results. I love watching that crew work.

Lance: Lance grabbed 4 boards and had 2 assists, which is a nice addition to his defense. However, he shot 1-6 and turned the ball over 3 times. He was back to forcing the issue, missing cutters and open shooters on his drives when he isn't a particularly good finisher. On defense it wasn't fair to expect him to stop Thomas but he tried hard in those last sequences (shout out to RoLo covering him). Lance made some nice plays though, he tipped a rebound to somebody (can't remember who) that was inside and able to score at one point. He made a dumb TO but made up for it with an immediate steal. He managed to draw a foul on a three point attempt and get easy points. 7,4 and 2...this was a bad game but could have been worse if not for some heady plays.

KOQ, Lou and KS: KOQ came in and looked like he was poised to make an impact but Fish was in "let me just throw everything I have out there and see if something magical happens" mode which meant Lou and KS took 5 minutes of pretty worthless game play out there. None of the three had a fair chance to prove themselves but KS did have a nice moment where he went full goon status in defense of AA. It was even better because Sasha was next to him laughing it up on some "guys it's totally fine, this is just a misunderstanding" tip while KS looked like Omar robbing a stash with the shottie pointed.

Galloway: Invisible man in this one. Not good defense, no offensive production and honestly does anyone remember anything about his game last night? Because I watch these joints closely as hell and I almost forgot he played. 17 minutes...no I didn't forget to keep typing. (disclaimer: I like the kid and his game, but a spade's a spade and a bad game is a bad)

Fish: The big man rotation was flat out weird, no one actually got a chance to contribute or make a statement about his place in the rotation in 3 minute shots. Keepings Jose out there on a night of defensive ineptitude and allergies to shot attempts against a midget was a massive head scratcher. Choosing not to put Grant back out on IT after he had played the best defense on dude in the first half was annoying. But with all that said, he did make up for it some with other decisions. I felt he handled KP's foul trouble right. RoLo was too agitated after his first two and sitting the second was a decision I didn't have a problem with in light of it. He played AA 41 because he HAD to. Trusting Grant and shutting the triangle down so Grant could take us home was a brave decision that paid massive dividends. It was the clutch move that won us this game. So all in all he held up with a decent game in playoff intensity against a strong coach...but there were some clear mistakes too.

Random: I bet Boston sports talk is annoying as hell any time Crowder has a good game. Dude's name is two syllables and those cats can't pronounce either one properly. IT gets the benefit of every call because of his size, but if that's the case I'd like a big man to actually foul him and do it hard. Send a damned message to that kid, stand over him even and take the T, screw it. He shouldn't get to run around out there like he's a single guy one shining moment ESPN clip. I'm not sure how the Knicks could have energy to beat anyone tn, but we're playing Brooklyn so my fingers are crossed and even with the tired legs I hope Fisher leaves Sasha rotting at the corner of the bench where he can play on tinder or some ish.
