If I have never listened to country or rock or Latin or folk or whatever, where would you start me and with who? I know that's a helluva ask, as if the same for rap, but I guess I would find out what type of music that person likes in particular. So in my world, I'm a fan of the legends (Jay, Big, Wayne, Bone etc), the obvious top guys (Drake, Kendrick, Cole, etc), the underrated/lyricist/poetic (Jay Elec, Jada) some workout/cardio (Big Scar, Dolph, Sauce etc) and vibe music to chill too. I can almost listen to anything, except for shyt like 6NINE, or even Drill, thats just too much for me at this big age.'

Trying to expand my ears a bit, bored with my playlists, and Im a music lover so even it's its from the 60s, I can get with it.

I think these bands are a good intro to each of these genres. You can look up the popular songs and albums from each of them.

Classic rock- The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

Power Pop- Cheap Trick, The Romantics, Jellyfish, Badfinger

Punk- Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, NOFX, Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys

Hard Rock- AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Royal Blood

Metal- Metallica, Slayer, Korn, Tallah, Unlucky Morpheus, Dethklok, Steel Panther

Alternative- Nirvana, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Muse, Gorillaz, Weezer, My Chemical Romance

The easiest way for me to find new music is to just watch TV and add songs that I like from the shows to my playlist.

This isn't comprehensive, if you like anything here, look the artist or song up on discogs and go from there. Learn to seperate the art from the artist if you haven't already

Well we invented rock music

Before that, it was blues, some of it was really strange sounding

Cacs on both sides of the Atlantic looked up to Blues musicians, a lot of them got :mjpls: as they got older, but Elvis himself wasn't (he ain't the King of rock btw, Chuck Berry or Bo Diddley tie for that title imo, look them up if you like this)

Later on, cacs gentrified rock, so we moved on with psychedelic soul and sunshine pop

The mid-late 60s came, there were a few things beginning to happen to us

Black music was becoming more politically aware:

Schools were being defunded, music programs were starting to get phased out, Black kids used their voices instead:

By the 70s, funk and then disco in the 80s

We shifted to drum machines, and a German band who tried imitating James Brown, gave DJs in New York the sample for Planet Rock, one of the earliest hip hop songs that wasn't Rapper's Delight or the Message

to

Rest is history
