Is Jay-Z the only black person who has merchandise at Barney's? Or is he the most popular and richest?

He's the most popular and image seen person in the public eye... there's tons of black designers clothing lines located in different white businesses but they don't have the jay-z limelight so they wouldn't get pressured

Honestly im kind of glad this happen cause like Paul Mooney says, some of us need our nikka wake up call. We need more incidents like this to show these nikkas why you need to spend money within our own community and stop strengthening other communities

and black kids are going to continue to be harassed until we have our own business establishments to patronize. is that too hard for you to comprehend or do you want to have a sit in at barneys? maybe everyone should pick up a belt and purse, and really show those racist who's boss.
Black kids are going to be harassed regardless of how many black business establishments we have and that being said it's hardly the boys fault that we don't have our own businesses. Drop the idealism and look at things for what they are.

The world over the most moneyed, reputable, desirable and respectable tailors and clothing styles derive from whites. There are many places in which black people would do well to put forth a significant foothold but the fashion industry is not it. Not only does it appeal to our base vanities and superficiality but white hegemony there is far too entrenched. There's a reason why those working in the fashion industry can't say enough about how racist it is.

Fundamentally whites hold all the cards there. Regardless of what nation or culture you hail from, if you want to be taken seriously you wear a suit.
In India, Japan, Ghana, Iran and the world over when people think about desirable expensive clothing they think of Gucci, Prada, LV etc. That is not going to change.

In a perfect world black commerce would have taken off decades ago when there was a much stronger sense of community amongst us than there is now but that didn't happen and now we're far too diffuse. As this thread and all the arguments we have here and in our lives show, black people cannot agree on the best way to deal with a legacy of racial abuse.

Do I think 350 is a reasonable amount to spend on a belt? No, but that's beside the point. Maybe once upon a time there was a question in regards to whether or not blacks were compelled to integrate in America but we're way past that and if we're going to have to deal with the reality of integrating into an institutionally racist society then I'd rather we fight for our own before we fight amongst ourselves.

Well, there are "questionable" things that some employees do that are not inline with corporate rules, training and company's missions statement.
So, why should Jay-Z pull out from a profitable business arrangement that helps a black entrepreneur to succeed in a white man's world?

good post and i understand i'm coming from a place of militancy and extreme idealism. but the guy wanted that belt because of juelz santana :comeon: it's not like he wanted something nice because he got a great job and needed certain clothes to fit the part.

and i have to disagree with whites holding all of the cards. if you really look at the situation for what it is, we hold a lot of the cards, we just refuse to play them. black spending power is going to reach 1.1 trillion, and we're not even trying to circulate any of that money. i understand we have no base of resources to pull from, but that isn't to say we should rush out here to spend that with other communities. hell, it's not just whites that are draining the community, it's a lot of foreigners as well. in fact, i'm willing to bet most hoods are having cash funneled out by indians, arabs, asians. so it's not just "them", we just refuse to link together, take risk, and build businesses within our own communities.

once again, i am coming from a place of idealism, but so are many blacks who want to buy their way into acceptance.

There is no way to have a meaningful, productive conversation with almost anyone on this message board.

Most of you all are simple minded n1ggers who's minds are unable to see more then one or two steps ahead.

You are all are even bigger enemies to the decendants of African slaves in this country then the white oppressors are.

Armed soley with your second hand knowledge derived from the text books of the American Education system and interaction with similarly situated people you come to arguments armed with a prideful sense of intellect. That false education you recieves leaves you unable to see the big picture of situations (and unware of your blindness), unable to navigate through them layer by layer and unable to reach the root and direct your attention there. It instead trains you to hone in on some irrelevant detail and spend your time defending/attacking it and anyone who either supports or opposes that detail.

Take this idiot mtu wa chuma for example ,who, unable to intelligently view and respond to this situation instead hones into an irrelevant layer of the situation (the price of the items in question) and.........armed with the previously mentioned pride ........he passionaltly and unknowingly argues against his own self interest.

He's unable and unwilling to view this situation through the scope of someone looking to get to the root of the the issue, he instead allows his ignorant personal biases and false sense of pride lead him on crusade to state his opinion and attack anyone or thing that differs with it.

The sad part about it is n1ggers like him, with these falsly inflated sense of pride, do more damage to the decandants of slaves from Africa then anyone else.

They think they are civilized but they're not, they are just well behaved..............

in short...............fukk you, anyone who's dapped your posts and anyone that thinks anything you are saying is acceptable.

You see im not really bothered by the racism. Its white people and should be expected. What bothers me is people in our community spending their hard earned cash on stupid frivolous things when they can't afford it in the first place.

I agree somewhat. Yeah, he was racially profiled, and yeah it's fukked up.

But if you black this shyt has happened to you. more than once. And it ain't really something you can change unless you have the access to the same kind of large scale brainwashing that they got to convince black teenagers to blow their money on 350$ belts or spend their tax checks on a 2.5k handbag :beli:

Nobody wants to actually progress the black community, nikkas just wanna be victims.

And why are people bringing Jay-Z into this? They were profiled by ground level employees. The scale of the deal Jay-Z made is way beyond this issue. This should be handled at the middle management level
We should back the brother up on this one. It is clear cut and evident to do so but look at this thread, totally divided! Shake my head at you all!

wtf we gon do?

stop shopping at barneys? nikka that's what they wanted in the first place! :pachaha: How bout we chill on the jordans and gucci belts and use the money to open and support some black owned business so we can build wealth in our community, like Jay Z is doing

but that might make too much sense

I'm saying we should be on his side, simple as that. :manny:

People are saying he shouldn't be spending his money on what he wants. Doesn't make sense to me.
