Square Enix has gone to great lengths to ensure the new zones are the most expansive yet, and the additional jobs all something extra to the table.

Perhaps most impressive of all, the storyline does more than just supplement the base game, it takes the overarching narrative to new heights by dialling up the drama and emotion in exactly the right places.

Final Fantasy XIV newcomers might have to jump through hoops to access the new content, but believe us when we say it's worth the effort.

We couldn’t have asked for anything better than Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. It comes packed with a staggering amount of content that will leave players overwhelmed in both quantity and quality. It contains a storyline that’s highly entertaining and rivals most RPGs in length, three new jobs that are more than welcome additions and flying mounts that help revolutionize traversal in Eorzea. It helps that the level cap has been increased and the progression is well structured, both in story and the unnecessary need to grind for levels. With that said, Heavensward isn’t perfect as many of the side quests do fall into the routine of fetch quests and bounties, not to mention the somewhat lackluster job-specific missions. Fortunately, those are a small part of this massive package as it’s the end game dungeons and trials that will impress fans. Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward ends up being an incredible value, offering more content than we’ve come to expect in this era.

Upon finishing the story of Heavensward and reaching level 60, more activities open up in Heavensward like extreme Primal fights, end-game dungeons to farm Allagan Tomestone of Law, Alexander Raid, or simply leveling your alt characters. They might sound a few but actually finishing them and gearing up isn’t as easy as you think it would be. It will take you weeks to complete all of them and by the time you finish it, a new patch that offers new content will be available. The end-game content is quite similar to A Realm Reborn and if you love what A Realm Reborn offered before, there’s no doubt you will enjoy the expansion.

For fans who have playing Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn since launch and caught up with all of the patches prior to Heavensward, it’s definitely recommended that you get Heavensward as it offers another yet epic adventure that fans will fall in love with all over again. The story that the expansion offers is truly captivating, and the content it packs is worth the money. Compared to other MMOs that are currently out, Final Fantasy XIV remains as one of the MMOs worth subscribing to, especially with the new expansion now available.

Estimates place FFXIV at around 800,000 to 1.2 million subscribers after a one million subscriber bump from February's announced total of four million, averaging at around 9,000 new players per day over four months. Significant post-launch updates and the arrival of Final Fantasy XIV: Heavenswardhave been key components to recent growth.

With subscription-based MMORPGs becoming an increasingly rare breed on the market, FFXIV stands as the second most popular game of its kind in the world today. High-budget games such as Aion andStar Wars: The Old Republic have opted for an optional subscription model after debuting with a monthly fee, while games like Guild Wars 2 prefer a buy-to-play model.

FFXIV trails the reigning subscription MMO World of Warcraft, a game that has been the king of the jungle for more than nine years. Despite significantly outperforming its competition, it recently plunged to its lowest figure since its Burning Crusade expansion in 2007 with around 6.5 million paying players. Blizzard has attempted to combat this trend with a WoW Token system that allows players to trade in-game currency for game time.

Absolutely crazy how great this game is doing and keeping up with/outperforming modern shooters 10 years later.

Easily one of the best player bases in the world.
