Honestly, it just comes down to what you want out of your system. I own both and they have their pros and cons.
If you want an all-inclusive media cable box with seamless integration, the Xbox One w/Kinect is your best bet. The exclusives are a bit stronger and span more genres on the Xbox as of now with joints like Forza, Killer Instinct, Halo(although its still got issues), Sunset Overdrive, and Titanfall. The online MP service is much better than PSN's. The hardware isn't as good as the PS4 though. It has a good UI if you like the Windows Metro look, if not...sorry. The future looks alright, as the boys at Microsoft are working to bring a lot of different/unique exclusives and experiences to the X1 but we don't have too much concrete details on that at this point. X1 is very feature-heavy but the Kinect helps ease all of those features, should you actually use the media functions frequently. If not, the Kinect isn't really necessary. I've gotten by fine without a Kinect so far, as I wasn't planning on using the cable/TV features when I bought it. Not as many X1 heads on the coli, but I know some are very active on their consoles. I also think the controller is better on the X1.
The PS4 is your go-to for a more gaming-centered experience. It has better hardware and pushes more boastful resolutions/graphics than the X1, and more multi-plat games seem to have better performance on the 4 as opposed to the X1(not all of them though), although both are still far from where they could be. While the exclusive line-up is weaker with games like Infamous, Killzone, The Order, LittleBigPlanet3, it does look to have a great line of console exclusives coming out over the next couple years(Persona 5, Street Fighter V, Bloodborne seems to be talked about alot). Also the indie/MMO game selection on the PS4 is great and will continue to be as more and more games hit the platform. People sleep on a lot of indies but they give you a lot of innovative gameplay for very little money. PS4 has a higher install-base, but the PSN service is still mediocre IMO. I've had multiple occasions where I just couldn't play games due to it always being down. PS Now is a cool streaming service for playing last-gen games, and it has basic media functions/apps like Netflix so you won't be missing out there either.
Overall though, I think you should consider if you want a very thorough cable/media box or not, and figure out what kinds of exclusives you'd rather play. Halo and Gears? Uncharted and God of War? I think the exclusives are a huge part of the experience. Also, what do ya boys/gaming friends got? That helps make that decision. More coli brehs got PS4's but dudes be active on both.
