Started the topic out of geniune interest to see if people are bothered or not if others take their shyt. I did feel like one of the 3 Stooges when I heard my track on someone elses account.

But you do know Soundcloud lets people re post stuff right? just like a twitter retweet. it shows up on thier page.

Ive had a couple lawyers tell me that this proves nothing

:manny: like I said...it's better than nothing. it's the timestamp that helps your case.

But honestly, to me it's a good problem to have. If somebody blew up off one of my beats on my soundcloud page I wouldn't be mad...i would just sell them some other sh!t tho. :shaq:

The whole premise of the thread resembles slap stick comedy to me, I literally feel like I just saw someone run into a pole :skip:

i dont get it, why is it so funny? do you make your own music?

Anyway, Im not worried about anyone taking my music :russ: But if i were really dope and i heard happened to come across somebody passing off my beat as their own, sure id be pissed. If you spend hours working on something that you were proud of and someone passed it off as theirs and benefited from it, i cant see how that wouldnt bother someone.

The odds of you coming across one of your beats that literally millions of ppl on the internet could steal is very low tho. Was it somebody you know TS? I kinda wanna see the example...Like post your soundcloud track and then post theirs..im just curious.

In reality I'm an artist and producer . . but online, I probably maintain the largest songwriting clientele in the business. I understand the concern but fear of your work being taken holds little basis in reality

Let me give you an example of how something can be effectively taken

I'm signed to a label in San Francisco, we hired a producer/studio engineer to create a beat. He mostly engineered it from my highly-detailed production concept - I essentially provided a road map to it's creation.

He produced the beat and was paid by the hour to do it.

Later I came across some information that prevented me from wanting to associate my brand with said producer

I hired another producer remake it for cheaper than he did it :ld:

Just wondering, considering how easy it is now to download/rip from Soundcloud, Youtube etc, do you guys worry about your beats getting jacked and sold on the countless beat sale sites out there.

I don't tag my beats and from listening to the stuff posted in this forum, neither do you but I've heard two examples of my beats which I consider to of been copied from my soundcloud. I'm talking exact same samples, chopped the same way, pitched the same way, with identical sounding drums.

I'm not saying my beats are great and people would get rich selling them, far from it, I've had a couple of offers for leases so I know there is small change to make, I'm just curious how you guys feel. I know after spending the hours that I do on crafting something, I want to be the one who profits from it.

yeah it can be jacked from soundcloud...I googled a beat I did for a past tournament and it is on a bootleg mp3 dl site...I'm like fukk it :yeshrug: crabs going to be crabs...more props for me...still going to :cook: and shop my shyt :youngsabo:

Even if ppl couldnt rip from soundcloud, all they'd have to have is a cd recorder and just record it while it's playin.

If I were yall, id start taggin my beats all the way thru. Dont give vultures the opportunity to loop any part of your beats

lol I'm not really worried about it. just pissed I lost all my sessions. and there was a topic pertaining to it so why not comment :skip:

I still got a ways to go anyway:flabbynsick:

Invest in an external HD and mimic your dedicated Production Sounds Folder. You're building your sounds now don't learn the hard way. When i started awhile back my CPU turned on with the blue screen of death. :beli:.

Any sounds can be stolen on the internet. Even if you tag it to death some of these cats can remake it or are slick enough to find a loop point and just make that a full beat. My thought process is, if its gonna be online you're basically giving everybody the general public a chance to steal it (sound for sound or mimic). If you want custom beat for a particualr artists, make sure you hold on to those.

Burn them to a CD...Mail it to yourself and keep the package sealed until you need to produce it in court if somebody steals your sh!t. The date on the package and on the disc will be proof you owned them first.

That doesn't hold up anymore

Maybe not but try going to court with nothing else and you have zero chance...that's my only point. I recommended the disc because it saves all the metadata (date created, date modified, author, location, etc.) So having a file that says it was created by you on your computer on a specific date would HELP prove your case if you accused somebody of stealing your music.

Dude said he deleted all the original projects from his computer so i suggested that as a helpful alternative. that's why I keep saying "it's better than nothing." in no way am i suggesting that you should use this as your only method.

the only true way to protect any intellectual property is to register the copyright.

But like I said...I personally would welcome any rapper to "steal" and blow up from one of my soundcloud beats. it would help me actually sell some sh!t in the future. not to mention....the beat was originally published on an account that is controlled by you, which also further supports your ownership.

That's why I only put up certain beats online
