Thank god I'm from a Yoruba and African culture where when an old person passes, we celebrate the blessing of a long life god has given them.
That's what was done here....
I see both sides. I would personally ask my people to not spend a lot of money on my passing. I would ask for them to either invest that money into community building or Black Empowerment or get their credit right. Lmao
But you're right. We are African people with our own values and customs. When babies are born, when couples become partners, when elders become Ancestors and other things, we celebrate and show love. That's the African way.
I've read many of Dr. Bens books and them shyts wasn't easy to read, lol. He like Clarke were our intellectual godfathers. They put in major work and gave a lot of us game.
Nothing wrong with the Black man of the Nile getting his just due. Major props to you all for holding him down on the coast. Peace
My pops was a student of Dr. Clarke at Hunter college. This fukker didn't tell me that until I was about 25 saying "I didn't think it would matter to you."
Guess what though? Before my father passed....I opened up one of his barrels and it was FULL OF BOOKS from the classes he took from him.Lol. Damn bruh. But still, thats dope. I learned a lot these two brothers in the past 3 years. Linked up with some Africans from he Ascac conference that they both were founders of. Been reading them, youtubing them and trying to implement their work in my life ever since. Everyone who has sat at their feet have been profoundly impacted by them. A testament to their legacies.
Yeah, and I'm sure you're one of those people. Just because you don't wanna be part of something doesn't mean you're not part of that something.Speak for yourself breh, there are people that make and do things that aren't catered to the idiots of our society.
