There is a legit reason why in 2023, for the first time in 30 (!!!) years, that Rap is not the #1 for the youth anymore. Putting out trash for over 20 consecutive years, even your hardest of the hardcore fanbase will 2nd guess their purchases from new artists.

2024 is when you REALLY gonna see the rapid decline. Once Rap loses the youth's attention and interests for other genres like Afrobeats, it's only a short matter of time before the record labels gonna pull the plug on their rap subdivisions.

The genre is just so boring now it's laughable. Not to mention every lil fukkity fukk on every block in the US repping some off brand gang is also throwing up their shyt raps online as well. The vast majority of new signed acts do not actually have SKILL.

Hip-hop is a 50 year old (black) man. 50 year old men tend to be well out of their prime...

Lemme correct you, Hip Hop is a 50 year old (black) man THAT ATE PURE JUNK FOOD, DID HARD DRUGS, AND HAD A SEVERE LACK OF REST FOR THE PAST 20 SOMETHING YEARS! Which means it is dangerously close to croaking and being abandoned.

It still is. They all listening to Yeat, Carti, Lil Uzi, Travis Scott, and trap if you consider that rap

It was revealed back last year that a lot of the young dudes, despite them listening to Drill and Trap, they prefer other genres of music as their #1. It was a big thread on The Booth.

:russ: At you thinking rap was the number 1 genre for youth in 1994 when grunge existed. 30 years ago was the last time rap didn’t have a rap song go number 1 all year

But rap was on the rapid comeup back in 94 with countless rap artists coming for worldwide fame.

Now, these rappers can't put on a show and those trap beats/ autotune can't hold the attention of the young heads that eerily brag about them. You saw the Grammys last year, the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop? Once it went to the Trap era, the audience tuned out and the performances were WEAK.

That's hard to believe. The only other genre I hear them hype up is brazilian phonk, but I doubt they got that blasting on loop all day. They make jokes about white girl music(justin beiber, katy perry, etc) too, but I don't hear none of them talking about the new Ed Sheeran, Adele

What was #1?
