it's the principle
Why don't you give the man $100 if you feel he should have both
A a homeless man learned how to program, where's the problemIf he has PayPal sure.
Could've just said I will give you $100 if you can learn to program by this weekend. He was obviously on some sort of power trip dangling the money in front of a person down on their luck.
Great for him!A a homeless man learned how to program, where's the problem
The premise was to give someone a choice...i'm not seeing the downside here.Great for him!
It was the premise of, "take this hundred and you'll never see me again, take this laptop and I'll make your dreams a reality"
He was an "experiment for his blog".
Of course you don't, you're an idiot. The premise was to give someone a choice...i'm not seeing the downside here.
Who says he was broke. Just because he was homeless doesn't mean it was starving. He said he passed the guy and saw him for 5 months before he made him that offer so it's not like he walked up to some random bum. He saw something in the guy that led him to believe he could learn. The money was arbitrary. Do you honestly think they worked together that entire time and he didn't buy the man food or give him a few dollars?Of course you don't, you're an idiot.
What if hunger or illness was driving him delirious that day and he took the money? Would it have made his choice any less applicable to his situation? How would you feel about his choice then? Why not both?
More than likely a fake feel good story to increase media awareness around the app.

Most people who are down and out on their luck are not complete losers...this guy is 2013's krs one.... no, seriously though... this is an inspiring story.. everybody that is down and out on their luck is not a complete loser...
People sleep on things like this. Having skills in PowerPoint and Word can make life so much easier for you when it comes to work and creating projects. You actually use the skill you learned in a direct way.
you can't force teach someone and on a personal level time is an investment it would not be prudent of the guy to invest hundreds of hours on someone who doesn't want to learn. Clearly in the video the homeless guy is drinking coffee so clearly the dude provided him something...but that's speculation.Of course you don't, you're an idiot.

Regardless giving someone the choice is not wrong.
Yea that was incredible. To me it exemplified the idea of giving a person fish so they can eat for a day, vs teaching someone how to fish so they can eat for a lifetime. All too often I feel like society is quick to give our people handouts that make them dependent on the system, rather than giving them the tools that will allow them to be independent.
I remember in college the IT department would have free weekend courses in advanced excel, PowerPoint, word and access. At the time I was like fukk it why not. What I didn't realize was those skills I picked up from those classes benefited me more than the classes I was paying for. This makes me wonder whether our community be better served if free classes were offered in programming or office basics. Very curious about that.
