I tried to get Purple Rush 3 but it didn't finish, this will have to wait another day or so. This is going to be a different upload.

The artwork is, will skip it. :hhh: I dont like digital photographs, it just reminds me why I didn't like Rave artwork where he's in the pool and its this horrible matrix photoshop. It's like he said to the designer "Can you give me the look of a bootleg label who doesn't give a shyt about quality?

Here is the disc layout: The Artist (Formerly Known As Prince) - Madrid Eclipse

So the show is from 1999, a promo tour of Rave era. :ohhh: Recorded live in Madrid, Larry Graham on bass, he come blazing out the gate with a near ten minute "The Jam" Prince comes out & commands the crowd to give it up. :ohlawd: Kind of revealing that 30 minutes of this show is Sly Stone material. Larry didn't seem to want to play anything else from his own catalog. :yeshrug:

Clocking in at near 150 minutes (2 song soundcheck at the end) Great audience recording :myman:

Larry always does that. He even has the nerve to try to take most of the credit for the S&TFS songs. I remember one show where he got Prince to annouce him as the creator.

By the way, Prince basically settled for Larry because Sly turned him down multiple times.

This isn't true at all. Prince met Larry on tour backstage finally in the mid nineties, Larry Graham was one of Prince's BIGGEST childhood idols, that's why he played 3 fukking numbers in concert starting around 1994. It just so happens that Prince and Larry hit off because of their religious backgrounds were compatible. It wasn't just music, it was just timing where Prince was meant to meet this man in his life. Prince had the chance to work with so many of his idols but he hardly ever did.

He only would work with them if he felt he was in the right space. He didn't even meet Clare Fischer because he idolized him so much,he could've worked with him in the studio at any time.. Prince didn't settle for Larry, he couldn't believe that Larry was in his band. Sly was never ever planned to be in his band. Why the fukk do you think Prince would play "The Jam" so much? Because he loved Graham Central Station as much as Sly's work.

Prince said he met Sly once but it was so awkward because he was so high, he decided to fall back on meeting his heroes. Anyways, I don't want to squabble over any of this. He didnt work with sooo many of his favorites. He had his reasons and he worked with plenty of people. I mean in February 1994, he did I Believe In U,Its Alright and The Jam not ANY SLY STONE material in a 52 minute set! That was the kind of person Prince was. "Yea I could do Everyday People,Sex Machine,I Wanna take you higher" He knew a big part of the audience wasn't going to know these songs, he didn't give a shyt.

Nah, there was no settling. He was living the dream with Larry Graham in his band.

These rehearsals are impressively revealing. This guy talked a lot to his band members to get every single part ready for arena tour. This is bullshyt that he never talked, even the band members are caught up in some mystique saying he didn't say much. He's talking through every single number what to do & how to do it. There's no way he didn't talk to rehearse a whole goddamn tour. And you can hear him clearly..... "Listen to your drums, Bob. It sounds like the Holiday INN Back there, C'mon man c'mon!! It's got to be tight GOOD GOD! " Prince talking to Bobby Z while he's doing a run through for "I wanna be your lover" .

You get to hear shyt that they don't talk about in the press, like Prince's last Jackson 5 record he really liked was "Sugar Daddy" Who the fukk knew that? :merchant: Prince hardly talked about records. You can HEAR almost everybody even the sound techs. it's crazy when you listen to this,it takes you RIGHT fukkING THERE. I'm not lying RIGHT fukkING THERE.

But the most amazing thing about this is, all these rehearsals are recorded and its all preserved and I can't help but think Prince knew these would have a chance to be listened to. Because no one is goddamn listen to 10 hours of rehearsals a day. Think about it for a second, it won't EVER HAPPEN. Because you have rehearsals the next day & the next day & so forth. This is ALL PLANNED for you & I to hear this.

That's how much of a genius this guy was. He recorded the process for the future to study how to become a band leader & what it took to run a successful band. :mindblown:

There is definitely some truth to it. It all is coming from Sly himself. Prince reached out to him many times in the 80s and 90s and had even set up appearances to get him back in the spotlight. Sly rejected it all. I'm not saying Prince didn't like Larry beforehand but Sly was the one he really wanted to work with.

Back again, sorry for the delay. This time with something new. A new series :merchant: . City Lights Volume 2 Controversy Tour Soundboard Shows:ohlawd: Missing Disc 1, (I had no luck getting disc 1)

Artwork not included. :to: You can get everything at this link though Prince - The Controversy Tour 1981 / 1982 (How amazing is Discogs? I mean, it has to be top ten music sites of all time)

Anyways 4 or so Controversy tour soundboard shows are pretty cool too.

All these series, City Lights,Purple Rush, looots of other series as well. :gladbron:

What is City Lights? Well, it's a series of soundboard shows/rehearsals of 80-88, basically covering the ascending years of Prince in terms of a superstar. I'm not going to lie and say you need to listen to 4 versions of whatever in different towns. But what the series does is give you a book end set of the best shows that were sought after in the legacy of concert recordings. Sooo I know this might be a lot of the same setlist for shows with little deviation to the music arrangements. But its also a way to just upload these, instead of pick select ones. You choose which ones you want to listen to. :gucci:
