Obama not sure he'd let son play football - CBS News

"I'm a big football fan, but I have to tell you, if I had a son, I'd have to think long and hard before I let him play football," President Barack Obama tells The New Republic.

"And I think that those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to try to reduce some of the violence," Mr. Obama said.

"In some cases, that may make it a little bit less exciting, but it will be a whole lot better for the players, and those of us who are fans maybe won't have to examine our consciences quite as much."

Yup, he's starting to feel comfortable in that second term. White folks are gonna lose their mind over this. :ohword:

I don't have kids yet but used to always look forward to being a football mom, I feel the same way now, not sure I'd want my kid competing past the high school level.

My oldest will be a senior in his school next year, and he's been playing football his whole life, but I understand why parents wouldn't let their kids play, but whatever my children desire, I will support them no matter what. But I can't criticize a parent that won't let their kid play.

When I do have a son I'm gonna be sneaking clips of Reggie Roby between Spongebob episodes.....he can go play one of the bballs or tennis

By the time I have a kid though I don't think the NFL will be the monolith they are now. The game is gonna get legislated to touch football by then.

These savages know what they're getting into. Make them sign a waver and let the violence commence. If u.cant stand the violence in football, watch boring azz baseball.

And legalize hgh and peds too. Hell, make pcp and coke available to players too

He's got a point about the collegiate level, though.

I tend to be more worried about college players than NFL players in the sense that the NFL players have a union, they're grown men, they can make some of these decisions on their own, and most of them are well-compensated for the violence they do to their bodies. You read some of these stories about college players who undergo some of these same problems with concussions and so forth and then have nothing to fall back on. That's something that I'd like to see the NCAA think about
