Hello,

ight my little sister going to UC Santa Barbra . She wants to go to Law School and is trying to decide a undergrad major.
She thinking about double majoring in Sociology and Black Studies.

Im in engineering and its hard to believe that Law School doesnt care about undergrad that much , as long as you succeed. To me those majors are more hobby type than career. Im worried that if she wont get in shell be stuck with a weak ass job or have to go back to school .

I admit im ignorant in Law School knowledge .

Is their someone that can help her out , and come with some different choices if needed.
Do it for the kids.

Go to top law schools.com. Law schools don't care about undergrad major though. But betting on law school is unwise in general right now.

Damn right. One of the more crowded career paths you could ever want to join. Get ready to hear the words..."Unpaid internship" a lot. lol Try to steer her to Business or the Health fields. Nothing is wrong with the law career path but it is a grind..oh and the debt..woooo!

Helpful Majors for Law School....

1. English. Knowing how to manipulate and properly use the English Language is the most important thing an aspiring lawyer can understand.
2. Logic. Yes, there are high level logic classes out there in undergrad that help also...REAL good for those dumb ass LSAT questions.
3. Psychology- If you want to understand one aspect of why people act the way they do.
4. Sociology- If you want to understand why people act because of their environment.
5. Political Science- Because it's helps explain how the world works.

As my Dean once told me....A Lawyer has to know everything. He has to understand astrophysics and what is happening in the hood. Then be well versed in all subject matters know to man. Because you never know what will be thrown at you in court, so you must be ready....For EVERYTHING.

The schools don't really care about undergrad. But English, Political Science, American History Classes will help a lot. African American studies is good for a different perspective that will be useful down the road. American History is important in understanding what is going on in the US at different periods and how that impacts with the judicial system. English- good for theoretical stuff, some logic, etc.

If I had to do it all over again those would be the classes to take.

Very crowded field, people I know all said the same thing, "you need to be in a top tier law school for it to really work without connections", hope it works out.

Tell her to really decide on what type of law she wants to get into when she graduates. This is important in determining what school to go to. If she wants to go to a big firm, she'll need to go to a top 25 school. But if she wants to work for the government, lets say like a prosecutor, she can go almost anywhere. It will not be worth it to pay top 25 tuition unless she's going somewhere that's gonna start her at $125K+.

If she is black and has the GPA and a 160 nothing else will matter. The best advice for her is to work hard and network.

Law is still a great path if youre committed from the start of UG to getting into a top school.
