Not really surprised. I was a deputy (jailer) for a short-time. I hated that job. Some inmates had jobs, like cleaning or cooking, or education program stuff scheduled in their days. Most having nothing to do.

For most inmates' day, you get up, eat breakfast, go back to your cell, eat lunch, go back to your cell, eat dinner, go back to your cell, and then sleep. Sometimes, there is rec time, you get to meet visitors, or professional visit from a lawyer or po-po investigators. So back in the cell, you have a general area, at least in my jail and all the inmates did was read, watch TV, play chess, draw pictures, write letters or in their diary, or workout. Workouts involved walking, push-ups, sit-ups, curls with books, calesthetics. No machines, no weights, no pull-up bar (for suicide prevention reasons).

were your inmates able to get supplements sent to them? I hear jail food is just greasy carbs, no way these dudes get that big eating less than 50 grams of protein a day.

You don't need supplements in prison to get big. With enough money on your books, you can get quite a bit of protein in you...and add that with nothing to do but basically get physically fit, and there you go. Not to mention that your body forms growth hormones in your sleep.

No outside food allowed.
They had what they called a canteen, where they had this internal money account where outsiders could deposit money into. Inmates could buy things like candy, ramen noodles, shoes, shampoo, etc. No supplements. The jail food wasn't greasy. Food was not fried or deep fried. But, it wasn't healthy either. Protein came in the form of turkey, chicken or beans. Some inmates couldn't eat their meal because it was gross. Kind of like public school food but a bit worse. You would think you would lose weight in jail and most do; but some people gained weight.

Chicken a la king looked like :wow: but some inmates were like :ehh: and others were like :gladbron:
