Ghost said in either season one or season two, that they put Kanan in jail because they'd would always be on the corner fukkin around with him.

Kanan is being true to his character. He a crazy mofo that like robbing and shooting nikkas and hustling. He'd never have the foresight to get to where Ghost got by season one. Kanan is in the game for the thrill of the game at this point
