Naw I don’t even understand why they keep trying with this show. It was wasn’t that good in the first place to keep trying to bring it back. Nobody wants to see power rangers anymore, these execs think since marvel is popping that all kids toys and comics can work and that not true

it's never really left though. while I haven't really kept up with the show since Samurai, I think it's only really skipped 1-2 sentai seasons since 93. and i imagine it's still cheaper to produce since they're still jacking footage from japan.

there's obviously still an audience for it if it's still on

I had no idea it was still on. I haven’t seen or heard a mention about it outside the random movies since 96

They haven’t adapted like 5 Sentai series now.

I mean this is Netflix so “cinematic universe” is just Netflix movies. The fact they seem to be trying to make this for older kids probably isn’t going to work. Not without breaking the formula for what Power Rangers is.

Some of them they skipped cause of the theme (trains) don’t sell in the west.

Others since they do two seasons in America but one in Japan they pick and choose which one to adapt cause we are behind in production.
The themes they are missing are beast, gems, constellations, trains, and cops/robbers. And now Zeinkaiger.

This could have potential but they need to break away from some of the preconceived notions about power rangers.

1. This is no longer the era of toys. So you can’t have selling toys as your bottom line and using that to influence storylines.

2. It’s not little kids that are going to the power ranger conventions. So while yes power rangers were marketed to kids originally the era that grew up with that has evolved. So if you want this to be successful you have to go to the source material that works and is slightly mature.

3. Use the best source material. Boom comics. Power rangers in space. Power rangers time force. These shows struck a perfect balance between what power rangers was known for but elevated the storytelling beyond what we were typically expecting from power rangers. They are finally appropriate and you can see how these sources could easily bridge the gap of an adult audience and a younger audience.

Power Rangers could easily provide an alternative to the Marvel/DC properties if done correctly. I’ve always believed that. It comes down to the writing, understanding the times, and good action (they’ve been ahead of their time in this aspect more often than not).

Marvel sells toys though. Kids and adults.

I think the problem is that MMPR is so obsessed with the original era they won’t let it evolve beyond it. We know from the movies they can make it visually dynamic in terms of presentation and Netflix will put money behind it. Other than that, they need to focus on the visual of the costumes and zords.

i agree with you. When I mentioned the toys I meant in terms of the thought process from back in the day. It was constantly about selling toys and Merch. That was a big factor in terms of doing new seasons and constantly rotating costumes, adding cycles, and the battlizer for the red ranger. In the show these things were cool but ultimately it was to sell toys. I’m fine with toys being sold I just hope they aren’t heavily relying on that metric to determine the shows success in todays times.
