I don't think people realize just how much Trump had going for him in '16. How much was against him in '20. And how much has turned for the worst in the past few months alone as the cases heat up and the RNC has been turned into a cash grab.

Like...we know he has sizable support out here. So you folks that absolutely obsess over this fact(@the cac mamba and @FAH1223 are 2 big examples) aren't pointing out anything major. He is the Great White Hope. A supposedly white male conservative beacon of light in the darkening wilderness of America. *snicker*

The thing is that they aren't enough. You need only compare the dwindling voter numbers since 2016. You literally only need to do this. It's why drooling over some 1000 polled voters is laughable on the face of it. You need independents. He still has a decent amount of their support. But he got a large large swath of them in '16 which he didn't repeat in '20. This is a problem heading into '24.

You need support from women. I have to reiterate. Pretty healthy support among women in '16 especially all things considered. He also got a boost from multitudes of folks who would have voted Hillary staying home thinking it was in the bag. The shift regarding voting attitudes since '16 is seldom discussed. Even to this day.

Female support, as among Independents, eroded for '20. It bodes even worse for '24 due to overturning roe v wade and the ivf issue out of alabama. IVF made it real for a lot of people that the GOP is perfectly willing to step over the line. That it's not just some 'left wing talking point'. That shyt is a real threat. Missteps like that are better than any campaign ad your best staffer can pull together.

And now the House wants to get rid of Johnson as speaker. If maga wants him gone they'll get rid of him. Optics be damned. Imaging putting anything in people's heads that you want your Speaker removed 7 months before a major national election. Especially consideration they have a nonexistent track record and failed to impeach Biden.

The GOP in general was so much stronger in '16 as well. Now? They are splintered...careening towards broke as their funds are redirected to legal fees....and they lack real leadership. They are not fooling anybody.

7 looooong loooooong loooooooong months bothsiders.

The Republican Party is a dwindling party and has been for a while. You can’t be
Go home and be a family man.. you wild :flabbynsick: out here now :mjlol:

:dead: Can you imagine fighting alongside him in a foxhole?

Joe Biden’s gonna fund all state parties and DNC in one election

2/5
People will blame Obama and he deserves the criticism. DNC had no money in comparison to RNC in 2012 and of course Obama lost the house. Dems didn’t win the house back till 2018. Presidencies have wide ranging impact on parties. Good news is that RNC will go bankrupt soon

3/5
Trump’s fund has not sent a penny to RNC or any state GOP

4/5
parties need money to survive and do basic operations. Far better than MI GOP with 11$ in their bank account

5/5
Looks like they already received more than half a million

John Fetterman's top communications staffers have all resigned

2/2
PS, we are a Pittsburgh labor site that covered Fetterman critically for a decade (we always knew he was this guy).

All three of John Fetterman’s top communications staffers have resigned in the last month

Two staffers are leaving for more progressive political jobs. Fetterman has recently made a big deal of denouncing that ever-nebulous political label.

Clout learns there’s been some serious turnover in Sen. John Fetterman’s office. In the last month, all three of Fetterman’s top communications staffers have left Capitol Hill.

Nick Gavio, who was deputy communications director, will leave the office at the end of March to take a new role with the Working Families Party. Fetterman’s former communications director, Joe Calvello, left earlier this month to work for Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

And Emma Mustion, a press and digital aide also left Fetterman’s office to work on the reelection of Sen. Bob Casey.

Gavio and Calvello, two veterans of Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign, and Fetterman’s Senate campaign, offered nothing but nice comments about their new jobs. But Clout doesn’t believe in coincidences, and it seems relevant that both are going to more progressive spaces, given that Fetterman has recently made a big deal of denouncing that ever-nebul ous political label.

Fetterman has alienated some of his supporters on the left with his defense of Israel’s war against Hamas and his criticism of cease-fire activists. His office did not comment on the departures but chief of staff Adam Jentleson said the office has already hired replacements.

Gavio said he is grateful for his time with Fetterman and is “extremely proud and excited” to become Mid-Atlantic communications director for the Working Families Party, overseeing the party’s expansion into statewide and regional contests.

Calvello, who is from Chicago, said earlier in the month that he was “deeply honored” to work for Johnson, whom he described as “a true progressive.”

Clout provides often irreverent news and analysis about people, power, and politics.

BREAKING: Judge Quraishi GRANTS Kim's request for a preliminary injunction. The county line has been overturned.

(This is an extremely quick reaction on my part; have not read the decision beyond this yet.)

2/4
Here's Quraishi's conclusion. Absolutely monumental news for NJ politics

3/4
If you want to read the decision yourself:

4/4
Important to note: this decision grants Kim's motion for a preliminary injunction, meaning it specifically applies to this year's primary.

Quraishi clearly believes the entire line system should be struck down, but I think this opinion technically does not do that

Fetterman didn’t run as a mainline progressive. But it’s so crazy to me when people act like he isn’t clearly legislating way differently than how he ran.

Can’t maintain staff if they feel like they’re betraying principles they had when they signed up to work for you!

2/3
All these staffers aren’t idiots: they were very reasonably under the impression that they signed up to work for a very different type of politician.

3/3
Certainly, but there’s other issues too. The border comes to mind. And it’s not simply salience of I/P, it really is intensity too: All normie Dems runs as “pro Israel,” but Fetterman is alone in attacking his party’s president *from the right* on the issue nowadays.

First on NY1: Bowman receives formal endorsement of Jeffries, Dem House leaders in reelection bid

BY KEVIN FREY WASHINGTON, D.C.

The three top Democrats in the U.S. House are endorsing embattled Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York, who is trying to fend off an aggressive primary challenge by the Westchester County executive.

In a joint statement obtained first by NY1, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn), Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-CA), praised Bowman, saying his “life experiences — raised by a single mom in public housing and founding a public school serving low-income children in the Bronx — have shaped him into a public servant who fights for economic justice and in defense of historically underrepresented communities.”

What You Need To Know

  • In a statement, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn), Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-CA) all endorsed Rep. Jamaal Bowman is his reelection bid
  • Congressional leaders typically back incumbents facing primary opponents. However, challengers are often insurgents or party outsiders - not longtime local leaders
  • Westchester County Executive George Latimer launched his campaign in December, pledging to deliver “real progressive results, not rhetoric"
  • The endorsement puts Jeffries, a staunch ally of Israel, at odds with the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC, which has backed Latimer

Congressional leaders typically back incumbents facing primary opponents. Jeffries himself helped launch a PAC last cycle to defend incumbents. However, challengers are often insurgents or party outsiders - not longtime local leaders.

Bowman, a former middle school principal and member of the progressive “Squad” on Capitol Hill, is facing a serious challenge by Westchester County Executive George Latimer, an elected official for more than 35 years and a former county Democratic chairman.

In their statement, the three House leaders described Bowman as someone who has fought to lower the cost of prescription drugs, advocated for investments in schools, and taken on the spread of so-called ghost guns.

In a statement, Bowman thanked the three leaders for their support, writing, "Together, we’ve stood up against powerful special interests and extreme MAGA Republicans to deliver much needed progress for poor and working people everywhere. We have more work to do and I’m excited to continue working with the House Democratic Leadership to defend our democracy, protect our rights, and fight for the people.”

When Latimer launched his campaign in December, he released a video pledging to deliver “real progressive results, not rhetoric,” while accusing Bowman of making news for “all the wrong reasons.”

Bowman grabbed headlines in September when he pulled a fire alarm on Capitol Hill, despite there not being a fire. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. He has also come under scrutiny for his past comments about the Israel-Hamas war and years-old blog posts featuring conspiracy theories about 9/11, which he says he regrets.

The endorsement puts Jeffries, a staunch ally of Israel who has called for Hamas to be “decisively” defeated, at odds once again this cycle with the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

AIPAC is backing Latimer in the primary, where the Israel-Hamas war has become a point of contention. Bowman, like several other progressives, has aggressively criticized Israel’s handling of its operations in Gaza in response to Hamas’s deadly Oct. 7 attack.

Bowman is seeking a third term representing New York’s 16th Congressional District, which includes a small piece of the Bronx and a large part of Westchester. He entered Congress in 2021 after successfully primarying 16-term Democratic incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel.

Latimer has in recent weeks touted the endorsements of several local Democratic committees, including the Mount Vernon Democratic City committee on Wednesday. He also has received Engel’s endorsement.

Pretty sure Fetterman ran as a pro labor Democrat. But he was also in support of.our troops and law enforcement.

I don't even think FP was a part of his campaign at all.

Anyway, just another example of progressive nerds moving themselves further away from power.

Yeah, he's pro labor/merica' and that's about it, dude is further to the right than the average hl poster and people act shocked

:dead:

I'm glad he's on the team... we could've just as likely ended up with a Republican Senate

His former comms team could always run comms for Hamas or Islamic Jihad and you know help them run cover for killing civilians, stone women to death, and kill gays or whatever else Islamic theocracies get up to. Progressive stuff you know. Human Rights and stuff.

All I learned is they weren't able to craft a winning message on the topic.

It's easy to say you don't support genocide. It's a bit harder to explain to Joe schmoe that you're fully condemning hamas and Oct 7 while also bending to their demands

Updated March 28, 2024

A judge ruled Wednesday that the Georgia Republican Party’s first vice chairman, Brian K. Pritchard, violated state election laws when he voted nine times while serving probation for a felony check forgery sentence.

Pritchard, a conservative talk show host, must pay a $5,000 fine and receive a public reprimand from the State Election Board, according to the decision by Administrative Law Judge Lisa Boggs.

Pritchard has previously alleged the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent on his show, but now he has been found to have voted illegally. Recounts, court cases and investigations over the past 3 1/2 years have consistently debunked fraud claims and upheld the 2020 election results.

Prichard has said he didn’t do anything wrong and thought he had completed his probation before voting in Georgia. But that didn’t convince the judge in the case.

“The court does not find the respondent’s explanations credible or convincing,” Boggs wrote in her 25-page decision. “At the very least, even if the court accepts he did not know about his felony sentences, the record before this court demonstrates that he should have known.”

Pritchard declined to comment Wednesday on the judge’s ruling.

Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called for Pritchard to “resign immediately or be removed” from his position in the Georgia Republican Party.

“Our state party should be the leading voice on securing our elections. ... It is unacceptable for our party to have a man in leadership who has repeatedly committed voter fraud himself,” Greene said Thursday.

Pritchard testified in February that he believed his felony sentence ended in 1999, but attorneys for the state showed evidence that his probation had been repeatedly revoked and extended until 2011. Georgia law prohibits felons from voting until they’ve completed their sentences.

Pritchard registered to vote in Georgia in 2008 and cast ballots in nine elections before his probation was over, according to election records presented in court.

“I felt it ended,” Pritchard said after the court hearing. “Do you think the first time I voted I said, ‘Oh, I got away with it. Let’s do it eight more times?’”

Pritchard pleaded guilty in 1996 to forgery and theft charges involving $38,000 worth of checks that he deposited while working on a construction job, according to court records from Alleghany County, Pennsylvania.

Pritchard acknowledged that he endorsed and deposited a check made out with someone else’s name but said he didn’t profit and the construction companies involved were repaid.

His probation initially lasted three years, but Pennsylvania judges repeatedly extended it until 2011 on allegations Pritchard failed to pay restitution, court records showed. Pritchard maintained that he didn’t owe money and he thought that case was resolved.

Attorneys for the state said in court that Pritchard knew he was still serving his sentence because records show he appeared in Pennsylvania court for probation revocation hearings in 1999, 2002 and 2004. Pritchard denied that he was present in court in 2002 or 2004.

“When he came to Georgia, he was aware that he was registering to vote illegally. He knew when he went in all nine times and signed that voter certificate, he was voting illegally,” Senior Assistant Attorney General Russell Willard said during closing arguments in February.

The judge fined Pritchard $500 for each of the nine times he voted illegally, plus another $500 for his illegal voter registration. Pritchard can appeal the decision.

Before becoming a Republican Party official, Pritchard ran unsuccessfully last year for the state House seat that Speaker David Ralston held before he died in 2022.
