The Truth
Also, about crime, i dont know... I think it's gotten better but I can't say for sure.

My best friend from childhood was killed there, and last time I was there (until recently) was for his funeral.

Could never imagine moving back unless it was for major $$$.

And idk about all that friendly shyt either. I got a lot of side-eyes out there and I always remember it as being a crab in the barrel ass city to me

I'm transferring for my bachelor's soon & Jackson State isn't bad, plus my uncle lives there so I'd have a support system

The Jim Crow history & the movies I watched growing up got me kinda shook, but the city had to have made some kind of progress right? You got a black socialist mayor and blacks in power

With that being said, I got some questions

1. How is the cost of living out there? (I'm only going to be at JSU for 2-3 years, but if I love the city I may stay after I graduate so I'd wanna know the prices. For perspective, the average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in Miami that's not in the hood is $1400-$1500 a month)

2. How bad is the crime? Is it avoidable? Miami has high crime but it's easy to get around if you know the city & your surroundings

3. How well are black people doing out there? Like how ATL/DC are portrayed as the cities for successful black people. Are there any middle/upper middle class black suburbs?

4. What's the entrepreneurial scene like out there, especially for black people? I may wanna get some tech-related things off the ground

5. What them country honeys like?:shaq:

6. If I buy a house one day, what would be a nice spot to move to? As aforementioned, are there any middle class black suburbs?

7. What's the public transit like? How bad is traffic?

8. What is there to do if you not a strip club type nikka?

9. Where the good barbers at?

Appreciated :salute:
Huge transition in your Life OP. Good Luck  The system is not fair. This is Life :(

Honest opinion of Jackson here. Jackson State is a good school. What major are you considering? Jackson is hood but you def can avoid it if you stay out the way. These country mfs down here are def WTS. Your best bet is to not think we slow. Just treat everyone with respect and you will be aite. Do not stay in South Jackson or West Jackson. The burglaries alone are sky high with the young kids breaking in houses. I would stay on the yard atleast a year to get a feel for the school. Do not stay in the apartments on campus they have ran them down.

For 1400-1500 a month you could live like a king in MS. Stay in the suburbs Brandon, Flowood, Madison, Ridgeland

2. How bad is the crime? Is it avoidable? Miami has high crime but it's easy to get around if you know the city & your surroundings . answered above

3. How well are black people doing out there? Like how ATL/DC are portrayed as the cities for successful black people. Are there any middle/upper middle class black suburbs? This is a working class city. If you make 40k-50k in Jackson you could live comfortable

4. What's the entrepreneurial scene like out there, especially for black people? I may wanna get some tech-related things off the ground
Its a few avenues for entrepeneurs you just gotta tap into the graduate school market. Its 4 or 5 colleges in Jackson alone

5. What them country honeys like?:shaq: Thick and fine. That's the only thing you will like if you find a good one they will take care of you. You at JSU its plenty of fine girls from all over the country. The chicago, NO, and ATL girls are deep on the yard. Plus all the sororities and the band. @bundleofbrittany went to JSU and played soccer.

6. If I buy a house one day, what would be a nice spot to move to? As aforementioned, are there any middle class black suburbs? answered above

7. What's the public transit like? How bad is traffic? No public transit. Traffic is not bad bc of side streets. You don't have to get on interstate if you dont want to

8. What is there to do if you not a strip club type nikka? Its a couple of lounges and bars that's decent now. Its def some nice food spots down here.

9. Where the good barbers at? Fade Dr. or Dre that cut down the street from Jackson State.

did you end up moving?
Always wanted to move to somewhere rural near MVSU or Alcorn myself

intentionally move to an area your ancestors fled like refugees brehs.

but Mississippi has the highest percentage of blacks in the country. And you go to #EliteLawSchool :mjlol:

shyt, I wouldn’t mind moving back to the Coast. Get a house on the beach in Pass Christian or Ocean Springs somewhere.

Only been to Jackson twice, and can’t really speak on it. Didn’t go further north than Hattiesburg if I didn’t have to. My little bro was going to school at Miss State in Starkville. Nothing in that town, but game days in StarkVegas was pretty fun.
