i don't have espnnews, but what exactly does that channel play where lebatard show can't even get airtime there? :dead:
Lol exactly. I had to look this shyt up again but they broadcast their radio lineup from 6 AM to 7 PM and then play reruns of their talking head shows ( First Take, ATH, PTI, etc...) for the rest of the night.

At first, I thought they were trying to get rid of ESPN News, but I think they're trying to drive subscription numbers up by placing the show there.

They are trying to bury the show, plan and simple.

lol @ thinking people are going to pay to watch this show, let alone the socially distanced version without everyone in studio, that only lasts two hours, no grid of death, etc.

Exactly. I have the subscription for the MMA reasons, but I have a hard time believing people are gonna to subscribe solely for a radio show. shyt, the only reason I'm catching it on TV is because I'm working from home.

It’s funny that espn seems hell bent on catering to 50+ white men while moving away from things that capture the younger, more diverse millennials and gen Z who clearly have more years left than the old people they want to appease.

I keep espn on in the background most days because I get distracted if I listen to music while working. HQ and Jalen and Jacoby are the only two shows they have that appeal to the 25-50, and/or more diverse crowd. Everything else is stale AF, and I love PTI, but that’s definitely geared toward older viewers, they just happen to be a likable duo.

Everywhere...You never there.
@dora_da_destroyer aint no Gen Zers listening to Leb ... stop it :mjlol:

And I’d add, their audience probably has very few young millennials, too .

Now it could attract more of that demo with some tweaks but last I checked ... nahhhh... theyre not pulling in that demo . That demo doesn’t even know who he is lol

I used to have the show on at times during lunch on site while consulting and younger sports guys would think it was some political talking head ... they couldn’t even believe it was ESPN radio :mjlol:

More than likely their core , bread and butter , big bomber demo is mid to late 30s (and that’s a stretch) , early to mid 40s up until late 50s.

Their references and approach to the show actually alienate young audiences . :manny:

Are you serious? Go to reddit, lots of 20 something fans which are younger millennials and older gen z, and lots of people in their 30s which is solidly millennial. Why do you think their podcast does so well? That’s driven by younger listeners. You’re way off base as far as your age assessment of their listeners. The show itself always talks about the references they make that their audience doesn’t get due to being young. I remember the first Kenny G appearance, and although skewed due to being on Twitter, something like 70% of poll respondents never heard a Kenny g song.

not just Lebatard is moving to ESPN+, all the radio show simulcasts except for Keshan are moving over there (Greeny, Max, Golic Jr.)
i hope this is all preceding and inevitable shut down of espnnews. they keep talking cord cutters, fewer viewers, etc. there is no need for four espn networks (5 if classic is still around) on tv. i'd argue they don't need espnu either...

I'm not sure if its costs ESPN anything substantial to keep the ESPNews channel on these cable packages
They got FiOs, Spectrum, Comcast, etc locked into paying for it and I think it would be easier to rebrand it as the "SEC Network" or "ACC Channel" for example, the later which used to be ESPN Classic I believe on my FiOs, than to get rid of it.
They just keeping that channel warm for something new I believe
