He made it way worse than it needed to be by crying. Now he decides he won't go on the internet( which basically means preparing adequately for his job ) because his friend/boss resigned from his job. If it's only about substance abuse, then it's good that he's seeking help and discontinuing from running the company under the influence of drugs/alcohol. If this was Stugotz or Cote, there would be multiple segments of him burying them for being unprofessional.
