True, but I guess my thing is ESPN really had something going during the Skipper tenure. It actually kept me engaged to the network besides games. I stopped once it became "White Men and Stephen A. Smith".

Honestly, I think if fukkery hadn't sidelined him, Skipper probably would've been pushed out by now anyway. Skipper was invested in ESPN as an actual content provider, and showed interest in their shows being compelling on their own.

Unfortunately, most of the audience for ESPN is actually people who don't really care about that, but DO care about the games. As such, ESPN would've had to transform into what it is now: a sports delivery and promotion platform Just about everything ESPN does that isn't an actual game is created for the express purpose of getting the viewer to watch a game, for one reason or another, and that's it. They don't really have a use for people like Pablo right now.

Also true. I just feel like they're underestimating peoples thought process. Of course the guy that just "wants to get off work and watch the game" exists, but that personality seems to have dwindled over the years. They opened Pandora's Box with their advanced analyis/analytics of sports. They may have crunched the numbers, but catering to the Joe Sixpack crowd is only going to last for so long for success. They seriously need analyst like Pablo, Mina, Bo, Passan, etc..

I agree, balance is needed, but all the data that matters to Disney is telling them that the "I just want to watch the game" crowd isn't really dwindling any time soon. And that crowd seems to want games, and content that just contextualizes and hypes whatever game or event just happened, or is about to happen.

Presumably, a time will come when things shift back, and in all honesty, ESPN will likely still have the pull to get whoever they want as close to a timeframe rhat works for them as possible. I mean, they just airlifted Buck and Aikman from Fox, and all they really had to give Fox was one extra Big Ten game that they would've taken, right as they were getting out of the Big Ten business anyway.
