unfortunately also in the bay area, we dont have these speeds at all we dont even got real tech shops

shyt is all fraudulent out here

Not sure where you are but my mom in Richmond has Sonic fiber and could of had At&t fiber like i have here in Chicago. Just check what is available in your area.

I used to live in Richmond, fiber is new there (as in like last 2 years) and not available in most places in the bay area last I checked (although they could of did a massive roll out in past 2-3 years). When I lived in richmond only 2 options was available, AT&T U-Verse (dont even think this is a thing anymore) and Comcast (now xfinity) -- both were like 40 mbs max

I just checked my current address (north bay), it just became available apparently -- I checked after your post

but only offers 3 packages, 300 mb, 500 mb and 1 gb speeds -- which I believe is slower fiber than rest of country offering 5 gb speeds

I have 1 gb with xfinity cable right now, but it only goes up to like 400 mbs

Unless you are running a server or have a bunch of people in your place constantly doing high bandwidth activities 1gig up/down is more than enough.

If you have 1gb with xfinity then your your speedtest should be very close to that if you are doing it wired. It sounds like you tested using wireless, which the potential speed is way more varied for a bunch of reasons.

You should always look to hard wire everything you can, especially if you are looking for the fastest speed. Plus, your speed does not mean everything you download will be that fast since it will always be capped by where you are downloading from.

1 Gbps is more than enough for the vast majority of people. Even 500 Mbps is enough for most people. 4k Netflix content is around 25 Mbps.

Fiber is much more reliable, newer infrastructure/technology and less prone to noise.

You're getting 400 Mbps because you're likely running a speed test on wifi. A hardwired speed test should get you close to 1 Gbps.
