Him dikk riding that whole movie :scust:
it goes deeper. He wanted to be official soundtrack. Denzel, Ridley Scott said no. Hov made the album anyways and I believe he was the one that leaked the movie. They believe the leak was part of the reason it flopped. And I think Hov and Denzel haven't been friends after that. From my memory so some details aren't right. And most likely they probably made up since then but :yeshrug:

None of this is true

If Ridley Scott and Denzel wanted nothing to do with Jay-Z making a concept album inspired by the movie they wouldn’t have cleared the VARIOUS samples of Denzel’s voice nor other scenes from the film being included as skits on the album. If Ridley Scott personally didn’t want Jay-Z involved at all he wouldn’t have allowed Jay-Z to obtain a copy of the film at all in the first place. Also Jay-Z himself nor his team would be dumb enough to leak the film as that would damage his reputation in the industry and also open him up to several lawsuits.

Yeah never heard about it being a flop. Would've been better if Fuqua stayed on to direct though. I think shoe-horning the Russell Crowe character was it's fatal flaw.

Why do you say that?

Have you ever read the source material? From the ny magazine
The Return of Superfly<<<<< link
It's definitely a good movie in there? but they wasted too much time on the Russell Crowe

100% with you on this. The Crowe character was clearly put in to draw a "broader audience".:mjpls:

On one side, I understand the benefit in doing that from a Hollywood business standpoint, but on the other side, it's a fukking Denzel movie with Ridley Scott directing. Reduce the Crowe character's involvement to just 2-3 scenes, replace him with some actor from a popular white TV show that you can get for cheap, and use that Crowe money to get Jamie Foxx or Will Smith to play Nicky Barnes instead of Cuba Gooding Jr.

Also, Jay trying to force his way into being involved in this movie always seems similar to the way he would try to jump on a remix to whatever song/new artist was hot rat the time.
