I specified rappers in the part you quoted you put in bold :gucci:
lets keep it a buck though, outside of their accents there's no reason not too, if tory and drake started using a regular street toronto accent i promise everyone in the states would drop them real quick. i remember drake tried using his real toronto accent on his last single war and everyone hit him with the :camby:
NY kinda took their sound (their sound via Chicago) and made it better tbh. I listen to UK rap music and have a whole playlist for it. It can be dope no doubt, but honestly, UK nikkas flow better on Grime beats than Drill and that’s no diss.
i'll agree with you partly but i think a person like skepta and abra will kill a drill track better than fivio and pop smoke since ny rappers stay stuck on a single flow but uk artist can switch up multiple flows like crazy on a drill track since they understand the cadence of the drums better

Fredo is talking reckless but he does have a point. UK rappers are underrated as Americans only listen to mainly mumble rap. Drill did originate from the UK and those that are saying tell Fredo to come to some random hood in US tell these hard talking posters or rappers to come to the UK. Drake, Asap Rocky and a few others only ones who show appreciation and can walk anywhere in London

Allow me to help you right there:

Drill music - Wikipedia

Also, I’ve been to London three years ago and chilled with a few brehs in Brixton, Camden Town, and Landbroke Grove; cool peoples but one of them was talking about Drill music when they had me listen to this South London group called Harlem Spartans (think that was the name) and made the mistaken claim that it’s a UK art form and I corrected him during our lil debate. He told me that it’s a lot of ppl in the UK who assume that Drill started in London and don’t know much about Chicago like that other than the high gun violence.

I’m not saying what’s right or fair, just stating the facts. UK rappers never connected over here. I remember way back in the day when Dizze Rascal has that push over here. My and my homeboy who was really into hip hop was like this nikka dope. It was different and we was digging it. But for the most part anyone else who came across that shyt was :camby:

And the accents are a huge part of it. Our brains are not used to them accents. You have to listen to a lot of that shyt for it to start becoming easier to digest the accent and make out words. And it simply ain’t no interest like that for people to be taking time to get accustomed to an accent. I fukk with Nines from the UK. He a current rapper I fukk with from over there. I know better than to put the homies on that nikka. They simply not trying to hear that shyt. It’s always been like that. We too culturally different UK rap not even on the radar. Average rap fam over here don’t got time or interest for it

Nobody in the states knows who he is

what he’s accomplishing in England don’t got nothing to do with over here. How often has he even been mentioned on this site?

:usure:

coli isnt be all and end all. A whole country has heard of him and drill rap and uk hip hip is in the charts too your fav rappers borrow from uk rap and pay homage like Drake. Just because the average american doesnt listen to Fredo doesn’t mean he hasnt made it. There are other countries in the world like Australia, New Zealand, a whole Asian continent

Funny you say that, I don’t think ppl know that Skepta had a feature on Pop’s (RIP King) remix to his breakout single

Can we honestly say we’re that culturally different though, if a place like Toronto gets love from us and Toronto black culture is almost a mirror image of Londons

if Uk folks started switching up their accents they could probably pop off but if they did folks would say they tryna be fakes but people from Toronto do the samething and don’t get called out so I can’t why they can’t do it to

they dont care about recognition. How many us rappers got robbed in uk? A few. How many uk rappers get robbed in us? None. Us rappers largely are mainly fake.

I’ll be fair, while I can’t think of a modern UK rapper that’s connected heavy Stateside, it was a couple of old school ones in Monie Love and the GOAT Slick Rick that did very well with American audiences.

I like UK Hip Hop/Drill/Grime/Trap, but I ain’t finna lie when I tell you it took me a long ass while to get my senses adjusted to that shyt because it’s so different from the flows, accents, slang, cadences, beat structures, and the whole nine yards...So I had to develop a gradual organic interest in UK rap. As far as North America is concerned, I’m sure UK rap has better crossover in Canada and maybe Jamaica. Don’t know how popular it is in Africa and the European mainland (I did read somewhere claiming French nikkas don’t really fukk with UK rap tho).
