Ain't no technically. Jamaicans can't claim hip hop. Even Herc said he couldn't play any Jamaican music at his Bronx Parties:mjlol:

The music was built off break beats not reggae.

This. We weren’t even fukking with Jamaican music like that til the early 90’s.

Nah but UK doesn't even try to be original

Everything in uk mainstream is a bite from either Jamaica or USA

And with Afro-everything poppin off heavy in the UK these days (Afro Swing, Afro House, Afro Trap, AfroBeats, etc.), UK mainstream biting from Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa too.

This is bullshyt. No the struggle is not universal when you have UK posters and those from outside AA culture dehumanizing and minimizing our struggles over here in the US and downplaying the culture that they copy and clone from. As if their own culture isn’t co-opted from other countries. If all struggles are the same; then there would be a respect for boundaries which clearly they had no problem crossing and using against us. The energy should be kept- poverty is not the great unifier and collectivity that you’re making it out to be as displayed by non US posters on this thread and I’m sure they bring into real life since they had no issue with using it as a response. That kumbaya, one accord was set to the side the moment UK dude thought using urban plight in America like a diss track was a good idea because his feelings were hurt and he can’t accept the truth.

I don’t think you get the point, no one can copyright being poor and living in harsh conditions, anywhere in the world, especially block people, so the things a uk or black man in France would talk about in relation to being poor and having to survive would be the same anywhere in the world, heck a white boy in Ireland or a Latino in Mexico could relate also, so when someone asks what’s the story what are these guys talking about, it’s the same thing, struggle is universal and so is killing so is murders and anything else.

What’s not unique is the platform they’re using to tell the story, so if it’s via Hip Hop be it drill or trap this is directly taken from Black Americans, other genres like Afrobeats or Grime have a direct influence also, that’s the point.
