Pope needs to get up there and take some blame for the Catholic Church's hand in spreading capitalism and greed. They destroyed South America.

Let us not forget that for hundreds of years, people were guaranteed a spot in heaven because of how much money they gave to the church. Let us not forget that just in the past decade, huge churches have been built in Africa while people literally starve outside the gates.

For the longest time, religion, especially Catholicism WAS capitalism. It was trickle-down-economics.

The Royalty/Wealthy would bankroll the Church and the poor was lucky to see a tenth of that translate into aid.

Atheist for Jesus
greed created capitalism.

You can't have capitalism and this:

That is the exact opposite of not only capitalism, but objectivism as well.
of objectivism yes, of capitalism...i don't know.

is there a place for ethics in capitalism? If not then were, if at all, do ethics come in. If you say NO ethics are not part of capitalism, or have no place beyond what the market deems they should be then 100% what he is saying is counter to that. BUT, i don't believe he's saying we need to stop capitalism, more that we need to be more ethical, particularly Christians, we need to be more compassionate. I don't think he's calling for an end to capitalism, but a beginning to compassion. Capitalism may or may not bee compassionate...but people are. The people who living in a capitalistic world can be and his words, IMHO, are a rebuke of the idea that a person can't be compassionate AND exist in a capitalistic society, instead that a person in a capitalistic society SHOULD BE compassionate..

You know maybe you're right, there is no place in capitalism for compassion, but there is a place for compassion in humanity.

Capitalism is human nature.

What I work hard for is for me and my family.
No way you can get rid of it.
