Exactly. Business first, innovative music second. There's no point if cacs are gonna keep owning everything and screwing nikkas over

@thedevilyouknow @THE RETIRED SKJ @10bandz y'all don't think ability for ownership and distribution has changed in the streaming era? You don't NEED a label like you used to

i think it's changed things a bit but at the end of the day artists still need back end support. The artists on labels also are the ones that get promoted on the streaming services the most.

The other day I came to conclusion that I can't support any form of rap indulges in killing, robbing, gang banging, prostitution or any form of promoting instead addressing degeneracy. There are a few rare exceptions like Tupac, Big, or Quik....

Every other contemporary artist is out of my rotation.

Solid hiphop artist / groups like the roots, mos def, common, etc will always be in my playlist. That's that positive get right shyt...

Nowadays I'm not even trying hear lyrics for the most part. Why? Because there's nothing that a 22 year old rapper like Blueface could possibly tell me about life.

Getting women? Killing someone? Stunting on someone? :rudy:

I've dabbling instrumental chillhop for the past 10 years.

Smooth sounds from artists like masego and nujabes are the wave. It's blend of hiphop heavily influenced by jazz elements like the sax and trumpet. It's very chill.

This is grown man shyt, that i can listen to and get my mind right :whew:
If cats can dominate this lane of making very chill beats, I'd gladly pay for it.

I firmly believe that we don't need to worry about a new genre, but need to reinvest in the ones we already have.

Part of the reason so much of our musical legacy is controlled by others is that we spend so much time rushing to what's new and actively shytting on establsiest styles that we're actively discarding history.

You can think whatever you want about classic R&B, funk, and jazz, but you can't deny that production value and dedication to the craft was better for the old music.

That, and maybe if some of these new brehs brushed up on some history, they'd truly fulfill their goal of being better than previous generations by not making the same mistakes. I know I'm not the only one asking how rappers are still managing to get fukked on contracts in 2019 :martin:

:mjlol:

Dude the major labels all own stakes in the 3 biggest streamijg services
(spotify...sony)

(apple music.. Interscope)

(google play.. Warner)

and let's not forget digital aggreators(distributors) like Arena and Tunecore which became a subsidiary of Universal when I first signed my artists up for their services in 2015...

You can't do it on a national/global level without a label in 2019

Being INDEPENDENT IS AN OXYMORAN

Yeah i still havent listened to a full catalog of flying lotus.... Need to sit down one day and go through it.....

Just now hearing of Knxwledge. I'll check him out in a sec. I'm real specific about my sounds though. The simpler the beat. I feel like too many cats over do it.

This is my homie from HS mixing. He's been at it for minute:

Hope he breaks through. Breh is talented and most of all passionate.

:patrice: I feel like I've heard of this cat before. I'mma check it out :salute:

But yeah Knx is dope. He's the producer for Anderson Paak in their group NxWorries. His bandcamp is full of remixes and stuff that he's made. He has some instrumental stuff too but a good chunk of his tapes are his own beats with acapellas over it, but it's pretty dope. He has some Pac ones recently that were :banderas:
