Depends on what time period you grew up in.

Hogan was for sure an American Icon (fukk him now though) but Austin was huge for people getting into wrestling in the late 90s.

Now that is a debate, who was a bigger draw in their peak? Macho or The Rock?

I have to look more into it
I think Rock still holds the record for most 10K+ houses drawn for a year(2000). more than Austin or Hogan.

as for TV ratings, no one in wrestling post hogan era will ever touch that record. tho having it on network tv vs cable does make a difference.

Best person to give you an answer would probably be someone in their late 30s-mid 40s and I don't know if there are any guys like that in this forum. I was born in late 87, so I don't have a real-time barometer for Hogan but he was damn big. Problem is in the 80s, how much shyt was there to watch on TV? For Austin, it was crazy how his personality spoke to the teenagers and young adults of the late 90s. A bunch of profanity and an "I don't give a fukk about your authority" attitude.

Folks use the Austin made so much money, sold so much merch as if all things were equal. The sheer number of outlets to sell merch and merch available, PPVs available, tv revenue, videogames, inflation all made for Austin in bring in more dollars than Hogan. But Hogan's fame and ability to maximize everything available to him was unbeatable. Ppl who havent watch wrestling a day in their lives knew Hogan in every corner of the world

Hogan is one if the more recognizable people in the WORLD

I found it interesting when Steve Austin said in L.A. he can walk around and pretty much go unnoticed for the moat part but when hes in Texas he makes his wife move around for him mostly because he gets rushed by fans

Maybe L.A. is just used to celebrities being out and about

I'm 40 years old started watching wrestling in 1984, we had this same discussion last week about Hogan and Rock. Hulkamania was a Global phenomenon that we will never see again, To answer your question it's Hogan

Hogan. Hogan and savage were a bigger draw than rock and austin at their peak. You can drop any matrice you want but savage vs honky tonk and hogan vs andre on nbc drew 33 million people (15 rating) on A FRIDAY.

33 million

Hogan was a pop culture icon on the level or higher than any athlete in the world, he was on magic johnson / larry bird status... and nobody would say austin was on jordan level in 97/98
Warrior was bigger than Savage,though.

As a mark as a kid savage was bigger than warrior.
Macho may have been a bigger star over time.Better career. But he never got as big as Warrior got over a certain period.

Warrior is the only one to flirt with Hogan success levels.

It was Hogan 1a Warrior 1b Macho a close 3rd.Them facts.
