I saw this before the edit :umad:

It's not that outrageous to be angry about this :ehh:

:jawalrus:

For real, though... my initial reaction is obviously anger. Exploitation of the most powerless people in society is just some of the most disgusting behavior imaginable. Then my ethical reasoning kicks in, and I think, hey, maybe they're just ignorant, too, and capable of empathy and reasoning when confronted with the reality of that situation juxtaposed with the offensive rhetoric of the tour.

Nahhhh. This is blatantly exploitative. Ignorance is one thing, but this is basically a "look at those dirty poors!" show. There is nothing redeemable about this period, the proceeds aren't even going toward some sort of aid or anything. Only the snobbiest, schadenfreude enthusiast kind of fukk would even consider booking a tour marketed like this.

the problem isn't that these guys are riding through the area and looking. the basic problem is objectification. they're not going to this part of the city to engage with the local area and people. they're there to gawk at them. so people's lives become just something like entertainment. it's dehumanization

Can y'all just imagine the hilarious, and completely made up skits that could take place on street corners when these tour buses come though.

"*ahem* Hey, brotha would happen to have some CRACK!"

How do people feel about those hip hop history tours, where they take you to neighborhoods where it was born, point out where rappers lived growing up etc?

...if you live in NY you might consider a more "authentic" tour than the one offered and guarantee your tourist a "crack sale" and maybe even a drive by done by actors, or dudes from the hood who want to make a buck playing pretend.

could have these two doing the acting :manny:

Never heard of these, but I don't see why it would be a problem, you have all kinds of artists who have "tours" with fans flying from all around the world to see where they were born, lived, etc. Historical figures too, I mean that's the whole concept behind Anne Frank's house for example. Why would it be a problem for people visiting where Biggie was born? It would be a positive imo (people coming to a certain area out of love for someone from that area) as opposed to these "ghetto" tours being a negative (people coming in to see poverty).

I'm not from those areas so just my thoughts :yeshrug:
