maybe she was in another room and had a clearer way to escape. i can easily see this happening w/ the front door being open.
whereas maybe the "male guest" was in one of the back bedrooms originally
and ducked down behind a couch once he came in and saw what was up. if he makes a run for it, who knows, maybe the robber starts popping off and they all die in the head
