So I & several other family members took off today and went to court this morning for moral support for my cousin who is going thru a divorce/custody battle. I’ve never really been to court for anything of note….been to jury duty a couple times but never picked…..so I wasn’t aware of how everything worked.

The courthouse itself is a huge, probably $500 million building, very nice visually, but inside just the whole vibe of it feels bad and negative. You see these, mostly white (it is what it is) stuffy-snooty looking(attorneys, prosecutors, whatever) walking around and you can just tell they don’t give a damn about ppls lives. It’s just a job to them, regardless of how anything goes down. They wear their suits have their big cup of coffee, their briefcase and that’s that. The only thing that’s warm about them is their coffee.

But anyway, after we got in the actual court room, as I sat in the corner in the back, just listening and observing what was going on before her hearing and during her hearing, I was pretty much disgusted by the whole thing.

The whole, “May I approach your honor?” “May I approach the bench your honor?” “May I leave the stand?” “Thank you sir….thank you, thank you your honor” “May I be seated your honor” The attorneys having to go thru seemingly useless formalities…one newer attorney forgot to say something they’re all supposed to say before giving their case, she didn’t do it…..so then she had to go back, look thru her notes, and start over. Everything just seemed like a complete song and dance. A bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now on top of all that.

I’m just sitting there like :why: Look at this mess. There’s REAL ppl’s LIVES at stake, their futures, the futures of their children at stake here, they're nearly in tears, and it’s like the attorneys/judges/prosecutors are just going thru a emotionless formal game of chess with humans as the pawns. It’s nothing to them but stuff they read in a law book. And if they can't help you, ultimately it's just :ehh: Thanks for my $200 per hour, on to the next case....

The judge was halfway being a dikk the entire time to whoever was up there….which I guess is fairly typical for most judges. If anyone forgot the protocol they were reminded or he would interrupt ppl constantly. I'm not against general rules or protocol & formalities, but it just seemed a bit much.

It’s pretty clear to see why black ppl don’t stand much of a chance in a criminal court, the whole system is just heartless and you’d be best to stay completely away from it all. I’ve known this for years already just based on my own intuition, but to see it in person only hammers the nail in.

I can only imagine putting my life/future in the hands of someone who is only helping b/c I’m paying them a bunch of money, jurors who don’t want to be there, don’t care about you, and a judge who probably just wants to get things done asap so he can go to lunch.

Stay outta courtooms brehs.

.... Everything just seemed like a complete song and dance...
Did you watch the OJ case? That was a long-azz song and dance.

Some courts have more formality and some less among the judge, courtroom staff, deputies, cops, and attorneys. Every judge isn't the same. But disrespect doesn't work. You want to get out of a ticket, these formalities are one way out. Actually, if you hang out in traffic court, you get to see what works and what doesn't. It's free to hang out in court. You get to see it all.
And, this is a freebie, people dress up in court to impress the judge, because looking your best helps your case. So, sometimes, women dress in business attire and for some women, they dress like they are going out to a club. No lie. Super hot.
