That video was him 100% trolling. And if anything, that means a new game is on the way. Yoko Taro is the kind of guy that you gotta put an asterisk around the things he says.
But even if he's serious, Nier is an IP growing in popularity. Automata brought a ton of people in, and Replicant probably did some decent numbers despite it being a remaster. Reincarnation is well made, but the West is gonna sleep on that shyt regardless because we tend not to take mobile games seriously. Square is absolutely going to be willing to drop a bag for a new AAA Nier game.
There's a good possibility of this happening. And I think lowkey, people are quietly bracing themselves for this to be the case. Hopefully it's not the case and the game is a banger, but it being ghost for so long didn't inspire confidence in a lot of people.
Then again. Shin Megami Tensei V was the same way, and it sounds like people like it, so who knows?
