which parts have you been?
Just Paris, Radda in Chianti, Maranello (Italian car factories), Tuscany

Next trip will hopefully be to Croatia, just not sure when

I hate new cities... Charlotte is very new... zero character and often very ugly. The best parts of the city are the most developed/characterful ones IMO. One big thing I miss about NYC for sure.

The only reason France in particular was able to preserve alot of its architecture was because even the Nazi's couldn't bring themselves to destroy the beautiful edifices that are so prevalent in France. In fact, France was the place the Nazis used to unwind after a long day of baking jews and massacring entire villages of eastern Europeans. Perhaps one of the few good decisions Hitler made was deciding not to level France to the ground because its beauty was undeniable.

Furthermore, France's decision to surrender early also helped avoid alot of the wanton destruction that many of the European countries that went toe to toe with the Nazi's suffered.

France and Spain have made more efforts to modernize their architecture compared to the rest of europe. I just think the buildings are ugly friend. Just my opinion.

Have you been to France breh? I promise you if you go to France in person you'll be blown away. France easily is the most beautiful modern city the world has ever known. Just walking through the Touillere gardens or the Louvre are simply amazing. Most of these structures were built over the span of hundreds of years, so you can appreciate the variations in arhitectural design and beauty that had existed over the past 600-700 years. Hell the notre dame was built in the 1100's, and it still stands today! :wow:

Navigating wasn't too bad... main thing was knowing the subway and having a map

We didnt know much French beyond the absolute basics... only really got lost once

If you go I would look into getting a mobile data plan for GPS. With that you'll be set

In Paris, its not a must to speak french as many people are speak multiple languages. In the smaller towns, English speakers are far more scarce. I was in Bourdeaux and i was struggling to communicate with folk. My French is alot better now, so i think i'll probably more comfortable in the remote areas now though...:jawalrus:
