Id like to see variations of this thread for all the Decades from 1910 to 1950. Alot of our Grandparents and Great Grandparents were from this era.

Portrait of Matilda Dunbar, mother of poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, taken between 1890 and 1910. Matilda was born a slave in Fayette County, KY. She is credited with instilling in her son Paul a love of poetry. Matilda worked as a washerwoman to support her family. Among her customers were the family of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Matilda died in Dayton Feb. 24, 1943

Paul Laurence Dunbar on horseback between 1890 - 1906. A note written on the back of the photograph indicates that the horse may have inspired Dunbar's poem 'Dat Ol' Mare O' Mine.'
