Once Calderon gets back & fits in, I think I want to keep Melo primarily at the 4. We're not offensively productive enough from the 4 & 5 spots with Melo at the 3. Defense is critical, but I'd much rather take my chances with that, and benefit from more shooters & able passers, playing within the confines of the Triangle, than to throw the chemistry off with 2 doofy nikkas at PF and C, Melo having to work harder playing quicker 3's, and only having Shump or JR in the backcourt with whoever's starting at PG. Don't know if this makes sense, but :yeshrug:
I understand the logics but I disagree with you because I think defense and rebounding will be more key to a successful Knicks season early than masking the flaws within the offense

Agree to disagree. I feel like defense can be taught with a little more ease (at least to the younger, or more willing participants), so I'd rather take my chances with Melo at the 4. When EVERYBODY is contributing, as they should, our D shouldn't be that much of a problem. When J.R. plays D, he's effective, when Shump plays D, he's great. Larkin isn't bad, and neither are half of the other guys when they actually try. However Stat + whoever else is at the 5, normally leaves us looking TRASH on D.

Let's be honest, Stat will never play adequate D, and as far as passing goes, he'll probably never get to the point where it's "worth it" to keep him in at the 4 or 5 consistently. He's not the only one, I'm just singling him out. But it drastically effects the rest of the game. If Melo has a shyt game starting at the 3, where are the rest of the scorers? If he has a shyt game at the 4, at least there's more opportunity for cats who can score, and actually buying into the triangle a little bit better than our other 4's & 5's.

But agree to disagree, you entitled to yours.
