The Xbox One chief says he’s more worried about the Microsoft gaming community than what his competitor is doing.

Since the Xbox One and the PS4 launched, Sony has held the upper hand when it comes to sales of units in a very big way. This year, the Xbox One has made some serious inroads when it comes to catching Sony and the Playstation 4 and making this a real contest. The company has come up with ideas like backwards compatibility that Sony hasn’t even offered yet. It was also the first to launch a console with a larger hard drive in order to make it easier for players with large downloadable games libraries.

Despite all of this Phil Spencer says his primary goal isn’t to “catch” Sony. Instead the Xbox One chief’s primary mission is just to make sure his console has a strong standing and is well received. He believes the rest will take care of itself. Talking to the Eurogamer, he laid out how he sees where his product stands now. “All I can do is focus on Xbox, and I love that. I love our fans and the partners we have. We’re growing Xbox year on year, we’re bigger than we were this time in the 360 generation, so generation over generation we’re in a better spot, year over year we’re in a better spot.”

Spencer went onto claim that he really doesn’t even think about how many units Sony has sold. While that might seem an awful lot like someone would say no matter who they were and where they were in the market share, it’s still a healthy approach. You don’t want execs always being reactive with their product to what their competitors are doing. Instead, they should be looking to innovate on their own. Phil Spencer seems to share that belief publicly.

Microsoft ain't catching up to the PS4 and i'm glad they realized it.

Good i'm glad Microsoft is humbled they got something to prove so hopefully they provide quality exclusives which looks like there focusing on. Sony got humbled real quick last gen. Can't say the same for Nintendo there's always some kind of fukkery associated with there products.

That's the way it should be.

Microsoft was only close last gen because Sony lost their minds and launched at $600. The PlayStation brand will always be stronger than the Xbox brand worldwide because of their history. Microsoft's only shot is to keep improving their offerings, which they have been doing a good job at this gen so far.

I would like to say Sony is at top because of
Microsoft mistakes not their marketing or anything related to offering more than Microsoft. Capitalized from a business mistake to the fullest. Sony even surprise how they are selling that many systems.

Microsoft just got a lesson in the world of marketing. I hope they learned from their mistake.

PS4 is pretty much out of reach so the focus should be building up XB1 as a quality console.

I do think the PS4 will win by a healthy margin, but it is not out of reach yet considering it's only a 10 million lead with HALO 5 coming out.

HALO 5 alone probably ensures that Microsoft wins a month or two straight once that game is out (assuming it delivers)
