How convenient that Phil is never around when a team has to rebuild :sas1::sas2:
So 05 to 08 didn't didn't happen?
Nah, I know a lot of people will say that, but it's not true. It can be argued that pop can't coach GOAT level superstars with egos... And it could be debated that none of them won without Phil so the argument can go either way. Like i said in my original post tho.. Even pop doesn't believe that breh.
I hate that argument. Neither Kobe or Scottie were superstar caliber players before Phil arrived. Scottie was a sophomore and Kobe was only 20 the year before Phil joined their teams.

Why Phil need 2 superstars on one team though?

Pop only ever had 1.

Dude coached 20 years...and you can only find 3 of those were you would say he was "rebuilding"?

Wasn't Kobe on those teams? Are you really rebuilding if you have 1 superstar?

Spurs have had 1 superstar for 17 years and have not have to rebuild once...

Phil only has 1 superstar and we going to say he is rebuilding?

Scottie and kobe would have become superstars regardless...

Now them winning titles without Phil is definitely up for debate...but just being great individual players...nah...would have happened anyway

Lakers missed the playoffs the year before he joined the team. Smush Parker, Luke Walton, Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm were starters. They weren't anywhere close to contender status.

How was David Robinson not a superstar in 98? 22/11/3/3 aren't superstar numbers?

Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker weren't all-stars?

The Lakers only had one superstar on the 09-10 championship teams.

:what: Monta Ellis now isn't even as good as a 20 year old Kobe.

Kobe was chucker like monta at 20
he started playing defense and winning all defense selections after riley got there.

thats like going to coach james harden on the rockets before howard got there.

Bullshyt.

Kobe's shot selection improved greatly from from 98 to 99. He shot 47% from the field and built a reputation around the league as a great perimeter defender. Dude even made the All NBA 3rd team.
