I respect your opinion. But, we can't play this "close your eyes and you don't have to recognize that your black" thing.

This is just as bad as white folk who play the "there is no white privelege, because I cant/dont know to access it" card.
I never said that or even implied that so I don't know what you are talking about. Also if Matt dapping your post you might need to reevaluate it cause dude is beyond stupid.

I could be in a ta suit and people still act like I'm going rob them :heh:

Last week I had a white lady clutch her purse and run out the other side of the isle at the craft store cause she saw me and my kids coming.

Me and my 4 and 8 year old was bout to rob her old ass for her crochet kit :dead:

Why is everyone feeding into this myth of: "the black person who perpetually blames all of their problems on race and as a consequence never succeeds" ?

This has to be right up there with the black welfare queen myth on the list of crap that racists love to use as explanations for black poverty, completely ignoring the class war being waged on the poor by the rich.

Instead of discussing this junk and giving it credibility, we need to be denouncing the myths themselves and directing the discussion towards real causes of poverty, because this trash is completely untrue and totally irrelevant.

This is just another way public discourse is controlled through narrow framing of discussion.

Its not a myth its true. Overall regardless of race people that always blaming others usually don't get nowhere in life period. Yeah its always outliers but that being the norm yeah right. Everybody also tries to narrow the frame of discussion but just like others you only focusing on the side you don't agree with. That's cool but let's not act like we all don't do the same shyt we accuse the other side of doing most of the time ourselves

One thing I want to address is; I don't support the idea that Afro Americans are a monolith. A brother from Portland, OR is gonna have diff. views from a brother in Portland, MN. But, we have to stop with this"pull yourself from your boot straps." Nothing gets done "as individuals" and is what you were satin, along with "not lettin blackness hold me back."

stop focusing on the harsh reality and focus on the positives. we already know what's wrong, let's focus on what's right.

you obviously don't hence the 1000s of excuses instead of owning it

No we have to stop with the talking, not doing nothing for x generations, acting like we can't say nothing is our faults, etc. In these threads nobody takes responsibility for nothing and people regardless of race that do that are almost without fail a certainty to continue to keep going down the path of failure. Its nothing wrong with pull yourself from your boot straps IMO because it doesn't mean for me at least you do everything yourself but waiting for the collective nah son we off that. Of course nothing gets done as an actual individual but I take you to be smarter than that when I say individual. Blackness doesn't hold you back and if you believe that well that's you I know it doesn't.

We know the causes and the people who caused it ain't fixing it

and "the black person who perpetually blames all of their problems on race and as a consequence never succeeds" ? isn't a myth, it's a good rule of thumb

What are you talking about? Everyone points out anti-intellectualism is destroying our community.

A strong mind only built through education either through school or self-study will result in a more productive member of society.

We have too many weak minded individuals walking around making dumb decisions.

Most of the dudes on this board are doing their part one person at a time, not just on Coli, but out in the community.

That's not entirely true, but I understand the sentiment.

This convo isn't about blaming the white man for all our ills. This is; there will be no post-racial society until the present day racial society is rectified.

The govt is responsible for some of our problems, but, you're right; that's no excuse to be idle.

But, it hurts. No one calls Jewish ppl petty because they are still procescuting German Nazis for the Holocaust.

*I understand thecoli has antisemitic posters, but, that isn't the purpose of that line*

So, Why must we be constantly criticized because we hold the US govt repsonsible for slavery, Jim Crow laws and really doing the bare minimum to address it?

Such a statement is completely meaningless in a serious discussion about poverty. "If you don't do anything, then you won't get any where." OK - a five year old can tell you that.

Until you can prove to me that a significant part of a population's poverty is derived from something as stupid and unscientific as that, then using it as an explanation for poverty is completely unfounded in reality and should be properly be regarded as another worthless myth.

There are real, actual, testable causes and predictors of poverty and they have nothing to do with that myth.

Because the government (especially local) has not done and will not do anything about it :dead:

Of course, hence why I said that's no excuse to be idle. But, imagine if our elders thought "well, the govts not gonna do a thing, welp, I gotta use the collored bathroom."

We can still help.ourselves and put pressure on the govt. Again, iys like black ppl r the only group who has to feel guilty about holding the govt (local, state, fed) for the conditions we live in.

We can definitely get our money up and lobby but that isn't what is happening now is it? :usure:
