I believe its more tbh. My main issue are these influencers arent really giving out news but mostly commentary and opinions. A lot of the “news” they repeat are just remixed from WSJ/NYT/WP etc or other blog sites. I havent seen any of them give true original news content but a lot of people see them as better than mainstream stuff.
That's my issue with it. A lot of the info is second or third hand knowledge that has been told through the lens of the influencer. When you bring up the actual article the story is totally different

The main issue is fact checking and reputation… influencers can just spew shyt with no accountability or penalty

Yeah, traditional media tries to cover different parts of stories and interviews the people involved in the story, and print retraction/corrections when they misreport something.

According this study, about 3/4 of the news influencers have no journalist background or connection to a news organization. And as such, they are just delivering their takes on topics, rather than covering developing stories. Echo Chambers.
