they are definitely here to stay because mainstream media don't have the resources to cover every story and legacy media have a history of ignoring many types of issues concerning many communities because they like the status quo or don't want to go against advertisers.

The main issue is fact checking and reputation… influencers can just spew shyt with no accountability or penalty

Edit: with news sources that have been around for years, they have a reputation to maintain and also don't want to risk losing credibility.. At a point in time, this mattered in society.

I believe its more tbh. My main issue are these influencers arent really giving out news but mostly commentary and opinions. A lot of the “news” they repeat are just remixed from WSJ/NYT/WP etc or other blog sites. I havent seen any of them give true original news content but a lot of people see them as better than mainstream stuff.

True, the last 8 years they have taken a step down. Not all, but as a whole. The thing is, they would usually correct themselves by making an edit to an article or would acknowledge during a segment. SOme place would even fire journalist (which has happened a lot in the past few years)

Also, political bias has really hurt them. They may not lie but downplaying certain stories while amplifying others based on the news organizations political lean is also a credibility losing tactic and it's rather rampant especially nowadays.
