If I were iranian i would down every drone I could

well maybe not but at least those that cross over into their territory, certainly. how are you gonna let a country that can't make up its mind when to bomb you fly surveillance aircraft into your country

lol yeah it's pretty fuked up when you think about it. even if they do have bombs they are really playing with fire. Ask Osama and Bin Laden what happens when you fuks with the USA, (don't ask vietnam or korea though...something about those jungles out there)...

I hope Obama can put this new war sh1t off until 2016. The GOP already said they want more pressure on Iran and they will reject any tax hikes for the wealthy.

Consider all the acts of war committed by the USA against Iran over the years including (to name a few): a) the coup that installed the Shah of Iran, b) cyberattacks against Iran's nuclear program, c) unjustified sanctions which will be responsible for the deaths of many chronically ill Iranian adults and children, d) shooting down an Iranian passenger jet in international airspace and e) probably complicity with Israel to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists.

Now does Iran have the right to shoot down a US unmanned spy drone snooping on its military facilites. I'd say YES. What would Obama do if China was flying drones off the coast of Washington DC???

Control your own mind or someone will control it for you

#1 how do you know that any of this even happened ?????

#2 Iranian plane shot a warning shot, and didn't take down the drone according
to other sources

FIRST ON CNN: Iranian jets fire on U.S. drone – CNN Security Clearance - CNN.com Blogs

#3 How do you know US didn't go into Iranian airspace for a brief 1 minute drawing
the Iranians to scramble a plane, while US moves the drone back into international
space.

If at this point you are not aware of dirty tricks employed by US on 24/7 basis
then imagine what else you don't know
.

Using an unarmed drone to perform surveillance from international waters is VERY different from using armed drone to launch an attack within the territory of another nation. Many of those commenting here are conflating the two. They're as different as chalk and cheese.

In areas of potential conflict, surveillance conducted in a non-provocative manner generally has a stabilizing effect. Absent any information on what the other side is doing, military commanders gravitate to worst-case scenarios. When both sides do this, the result is a sequence of increasingly aggressive moves which can easily lead to actual conflict.

Drone missions like this one help reassure the US forces that the Iranians are not up to anything especially nasty. You can safely bet that the Iranians are also keeping an eye on US forces in the area, and that we don't challenge them as they do so. This mutual surveillance helps lower the chance of hostilities.

The fact that the Revolutionary Guard took a few potshots at one of our drones is unfortunate but probably insignificant. We may need to remind them that surveillance from international waters is lawful and reduces the chance of conflict. That's what I expect the administration is doing.

Yeah that's an act of

We are, indeed, in the preparatory stages of war with Iran. It may actually be the only way of preventing them to become a nuclear military power, Obama said many times he would not permit.

With Obama as president for another four years we may, however, have a chance. Netanyahu apparently put bet on Romney and lost (according to the Times Cohen). He may push again in the middle of 2013 and, for what we know, start the war alone. That may force us to at least pretend that we are 1000% behind our dear ally Israel but we have now some 6 months, I think, to be ready for some bit risky but fairly credible games.

We had Gulf of Tonkin and we had WMD's in Iraq.

It is all presidential prerogative to play these games. That's one of the main reasons I voted for Obama, he still looks much less likely to start a major war anywhere in the world than Romney surrounded by the evil neocons.

One can, unfortunately, never be 100% with our Commanders in Chief.

SU-25's are old as hell

Eh, so is the A-10 Thunderbolt. But with complete system overhauls and upgraded weapons systems the A-10 will be around for another 30 years strong because its the most perfect close ground support and tank busting vehicle on Earth. The Su-25 Frogfoot is basically the Soviet answer for the A-10. I highly doubt Iran is flying the 1970s version of that aircraft.

Neocons say let's test Iran's fleet of high-speed swarming torpedo boats made out of fiberglass (hard to detect and harder to hit), its new smart mines that lie on the sea floor - there invisible to sonar waiting to be released and triggered as desired (eg. under U.S. aircraft carriers, supertankers), their new Kilo-class Russian super silent submarines, their Russian Sunburn and Super-Sunburn missiles that travel at 2-3 times the speed of sound while also capable of violent evasive maneuvers, and their Russian S300 PMU-2 missile/radar systems that render our stealth technology useless. Yes, let's replicate the 2002 War Games (over in 5-10 minutes, we lost 16 major warships), anything for Israel again!

On second thought, let the neo-cons, Adelson, and Israel spend their own trillions on new ships, sail them to the Straits of Hurmuz, and rattle their own sabers towards Iran!

I can't say I've read about any worthwhile improvements to the Su-25...

And if they're flying the ones Iraq ran to Iran.
