PEMDAS is probably ok as an "order of operations" ... but apparently calculators are having some issues .... interesting thread ....

humans
Seems like user error to me along with lack of consistent programming by TI.

I see all these Facebook PEMDAS math things pop up and I think to myself: no one with common sense writes math in this ambiguous way. Parentheses and brackets all day ho.

I would never put mine in all at the same time (:shaq:)

I would automatically enter it as parentheses , get that answer, then multiplication etc.

Can't be to careful when taking math tests.

the only answer is 2. for you to arrive at 288, you musy have taken a left at the wrong corner.

See, I was taught that division and multiplication are ... equal so to speak, so you always go from left to right:

48 / 2 (9+3) =
48 / 2 (12) =
24 (12) =
288.

I don't know why you multiplied before you divided.

its multiplication first, then division. I believe subtraction draws the last straw.

I looked at is 48/2*12 and both 2 and 12 are in the denominator and the fraction as a whole is 48/24.

As opposed to 48/2 as a fraction and 12 as a whole number multiplied by the whole thing.
