Malignaggi Considers Porter Better Than Adrien Broner

Paulie Malignaggi and Shawn Porter respectfully disagreed about whether Malignaggi deserved a victory over Adrien Broner.

Malignaggi and Porter both believe, however, that Porter is a better fighter than Broner, who beat Malignaggi by split decision nine months ago at Barclays Center in Malignaggi’s native Brooklyn. The 33-year-old Malignaggi will try to become a two-time welterweight world champion April 19, when he is scheduled to challenge Porter (23-0-1, 14 KOs) for Porter’s IBF 147-pound crown on the Bernard Hopkins-Beibut Shumenov undercard at Washington’s D.C. Armory.

“I felt like I did enough to not lose my title, to hold on to my title,” Malignaggi said about the Broner bout. “I do think it was a close fight, but I think I did enough to hold on to my title. I think, at the end of the day, that fight was always going to be a filler to fill Adrien’s bullsh-t resume, which is what it is if you look at it, pretty much, as a whole. But at the end of the day, it didn’t go my way and I’m not going to sit there crying over it. I’ve made my points about the fight and we go on and move on.

“And I actually think I’m fighting a better opponent than Adrien Broner. I think if you match up Adrien Broner against Shawn Porter, I think Shawn Porter beats him every time. Truthfully, on the grind, Adrien doesn’t like to fight. And I think Shawn would force him to fight at a pace that Adrien wouldn’t like and Adrien, as we saw in the Maidana fight, doesn’t have an answer when you force him to fight at a pace he doesn’t like, you know? So I think I’ve got a better opponent in front of me. I think I’ve got a more worthy world champion in front of me.”

Paulie Malignaggi rips Manny Pacquiao, loss to Adrien Broner

Paulie Malignaggi had a word for the notions that past sparring sessions with Manny Pacquiao could help upcoming rival Shawn Porter to prepare for him, and that he truly lost to Adrien Broner last June.

That word? "Bulls__t."

The 33-year-old Malignaggi (33-5, 7 knockouts) recognizes that he will be fighting "a younger, bigger guy" on April 19 in Porter (23-0-1, 14 KOs), a 26-year-old IBF welterweight titleholder who plans to "steamroll" Malignaggi when they meet at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. on Showtime.

Having fought as heavy as junior middleweight and having served as a former sparring partner for eight-division titlewinner Pacquiao, Porter won the belt from Devon Alexander by unanimous decision, leaving his smaller rival cut and bloodied in December.

During a Wednesday conference call, Porter said that he considered the Alexander fight to be "a pretty good blueprint for going against somebody like Paulie," supporting that assertion with his past experiences against Pacquiao.

"You take into account everything that I've done up until this point, sparring with Manny Pacquiao, I mean, there's no better blueprint than that," said Porter, who worked with Pacquiao in advance of the Filipino icon's win over Shane Mosley in May 2011.

"The guy's got the quickest hands in the businesss, so I have all of the experience and what it takes to beat Paulie, and it's just a matter of getting in there on April 19 and doing it."

While Malignaggi admitted to being impressed by Porter's effort against Alexander, he disagreed with the titleholder's reference to Pacquiao — and that's putting it mildly.

"Shawn Porter showed that he was a force to be reckoned with when he beat Devon Alexander. All of that other bulls__t about sparring with Manny Pacquiao and all of that, I don't rate Manny Pacquiao as a very good fighter," said Malignaggi.

"I don't rate him as a very intelligent fighter, actually, so all of that other bulls__t about the sparring and all of that, to me, that goes in one ear and out the other.
But what Shawn did to Devon was very impressive, and it certainly put him in a different light in a lot of different ways, and in a lot of more positive ways."

Paulie loves talking shyt...too bad he is going to get roughed up like a motherfukker against Porter. I just don't see how he keeps Porter off of him.

paulie and his trash talking lol....he should be worried about how he's going to keep someone who's not a natural welter off his ass for 12 rounds...esp someone who will not respect his power at all

now his comment about broner and porter:patrice:...ill say this broner is by far the more talented fighter than porter....but he could be talking about it in a style makes fights type situation where porter is a swarmer and a bigger guy and broner is not necessarily busy enough at times and his power at 147 is still a question mark

He's gotta sell a fight, that's how I view his comments. Questioning Manny's ring intelligence when the guy is a HOF and a legend is just talking out of your azz. When a guy is 55-5, it's kinda hard to question his intelligence. He's been doing something right all these years. Granted, he left himself wide open and came like a cow to the slaughter when Marquez caught him, but that still doesn't take away all that he's accomplished. Paulie's just generating some hype for the fight.

The damn Brooklyn Brawler's back at it:snoop:

If Porter is better than Broner........then you REALLY dont stand a chance in this fight:russ:

How the hell you lose to Adrien Broner, and then expect to beat a guy you say is better than him?:dahell:

Then you talk down on Manny Pacquiao....saying you dont rate him as a very good fighter?:what:

If Manny Pacquiao's not a good fighter, what the hell are you?:dead:

He's letting his made up belt get to his head:mjlol:

Yeah, I was wondering the same, is the belt going to his head now? I mean, to be fair, as a prize fighter, he has to promote himself and generate discussion to sell these fights. I get that, it's making a living, but this sh!t he's talking is just flagrant and nonsensible. He beat a washed up questionable legend too in order to obtain the belt. It's not like it was done in spectacular fashion either. He's really setting himself up for embarrasment with this one, cuz I don't see him fairing well during this fight. He's going to look a mess when it's all said and done.

To be straight with you, I'm almost wondering if this fight is a gift for Porter as it's going to raise his stock tremendously. It's also got me wondering if Paulie is in on the take. Let's face it, Paulie will have a great career after his fighting days are over for him. Announcing, ESPN, whatever for him, Reality TV, etc, sky is the limit for him. That said, this is a huge favor for Porter. He capitolized well off of his beating of Devon. The same way Maidana capitilized off of his beating of Broner. Maidana got Floyd as a result, Porter is getting a higher stock and publicity from fighting Paulie which was a result of beating Alexaner.

Porter is gonna beat Paulie and then go on to beat Kell Brook in July. I can see a future showdown between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter on the horizon

:whew: Can you imagine? :ohlawd: Please let that happen, although Thurman needs another or a couple more higher profile rumbles before that happens. I do agree with Paulie that he needs to raise his stock a little higher before that happens. I just don't think he deserves that just yet.

Porter is all Wrong for Thurman, he wont allow him to look pretty at a distance winging bombs, and from Karrass and Chaves it's evident Thurman aint built for a trench fight

That didnt even make sense. You've been gone too long. You're rusty.

I'll give you a pass this time:ufdup:

Despite being knocked down in the second round, Malignaggi was able to regain his stride en route to a strong 116-111, 117-110, 117-110 victory which earned him Brooklyn bragging rights and a potentially bright future in the stacked welterweight division. In addition, he was awarded a special Brooklyn’s World Championship belt designed by SARTONK.

Honestly from what I watch with my strongest convictions, Broner and Malinaggi both beats the shyt out of Thurman, now Porter would bring a whole different dimension of problems on top of him having a pretty solid beard...............

Thurman simply needs a name for me to gauge him correctly, and even gauging him on his level and on his scale he's a c class fighter, he showed nothing but tumbleweeds vs Zavek, was getting the shyt boxed out of by Chaves before he landed a fluke body ko, was getting worked by Karrass bum ass, he failed to showcase in showcase matches vs handpicked guys..........he failed to showcase anything after his mouth got him that hype and buzz. Say what you want about a Broner for getting his ass whooped by he talked the talked and stood tall and ran from no higher level fighters even post Malinaggi when it was clear he wasn't quite ready for that level..........

Bottom line I'm tired of hearing of Thurman in theoretical matches, for all the talk of fighters ducking, how is looking for a bigger payday, vs more proven fighters ducking, what does a Thurman win does to anyone not named Khan or Broner(haymon hype train), absolutely nothing......Not to mention there were a myriad of other fights he could have took, why not a Josestio Lopez, he's a bum nikka too, do they not trust a Thurman vs him, I mean any live body........

But I digress:manny:
