Watching this and wondering how in the fukk did the baby and the couple not die when the dude put the bomb right next to them? Can someone explain

The dude tossing the big papi louieville alugger to the cop while the bros were tossing pipe bombs was hilarious. Dude did it so dramatic like "here sarge! Bash them fukkis with my red sox louieville alugger!" As explosions and gunshots rain down everywhere
