Jeremiah 31:31-34: ""Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them," declares the LORD. "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

This prophecy was written in the old testament :manny:

:childplease:New covenant (i.e. AGREEMENT/CONTRACT). Not "new testament"....

Religion is so useless and destructive. The sooner us black folk leave all that shyt behind the better.

I don’t think it’s completely useless. Some people need that structure in their lives. However, having the pastor as the most influential person in the community has to stop.

We have tons of Black experts in different disciplines and professions. They need to be elevated and the pastor needs to stay in his lane.

I disagree since scientists/academics/etc. don't build communities. That is the pastor's job. What's really needed are theologians in Churches. These are people who study the text academically AND 'spiritually' alongside pastors. Too many people are just plain ignorant of the text and the 'faith' as is evidenced in many of the comments throughout this thread. Having theologians in Churches would allow the laity to better discern whether the leader of the Church is actually doing what he should be rather than what he wants to....which is an issue in all facets of society.

I choose to believe because that is what I want to do.

Lol you think millions of black folks are brainwashed, both past and present, but you were just ever so smart enough to break the chains?
Has nothing to do with being smart. Just realizing that science and history don't add up. No supernatural miracles have happened. Prays do nothing, going to church doesn't do anything.
Seems like most people that do believe still do whatever they want but only become religious in conversations like this or when someone dies.

But yeah millions of us are brainwashed

Pastor at my homeboy's church live streamed his service yesterday and he and his 6 deacons came out wearing N95 masks. They simulutaneously took them off and slammed them in the trash and said GOD IS ALL THE PROTECTION WE NEED!!!!

7 perfectly good N95 masks wasted by idiots

Yeah I feel you, if I was a dumb ass older nikka I would also assume only kids read as they are closer to school age. I mean I feel you, I think the bible is full of bull shyt but I also don't claim to follow it. But you Christians always want to have it both ways.

There's 1500+ years of history in the text from an extremely unique perspective. As far as the 'bullshyt', that comes from ignorance as we aren't the intended audience of the texts. Most of the stuff in there is lost on us or relegated to 'fairy tales' but nothing in the text was put there haphazardly.

It seems to me that it isn't only the believers who want it both ways, but the non-believers, as they are always claiming something is 'wrong' or 'evil', but they have no rational basis upon which to judge that without using parts of a worldview they claim is wholly irrational.....which has never made sense to me.

How would you know if a 'supernatural miracle' has/hasn't happened? From my perspective, life, itself, is pretty much a 'supernatural miracle'.....as is how much our species has figured out how the Universe works.

Science and history mesh quite well.

Praying works the same as meditation.

Going to Church reinforces a sense of community.

I know a lot of hypocrites, but that doesn't mean ALL of them are, nor does it mean what they profess to believe in is false.

Praying can work as a form of meditation but asking for something doesn't amount to anything.

Until there is evidence of something supernatural you have to have proof. If not what's the difference of people saying they seen ghost, big foot, lochness monsters, jersey devil, aliens, and all of that?

Evidence of science and history meshing up well with the fantastical things in the Bible?

First problem is: Define 'supernatural'.

Sure. Do you know what the Ancient Egyptians believed as far as how the Universe came to be? How about Sumerians? Akkadians? If you did, nothing in the books would seem 'fantastical'.

Supernatural:
(of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.
or
manifestations or events considered to be of supernatural origin, such as ghosts.

Ancients civilizations believed what they believed to give answer to the what and how since they didn't have the advancement in science to make practical sense of it. They also used it to keep the separation from the haves and the have nots. "You are poor because you were met to be poor and I'm of divine lineage"
Old testament borrowed from those previous religions (which later became known as myths because people knew they were made up tales) and the Jews made it their own.
Christianity would've been consider a myth also if it wasn't for the Crusades and the Inquisition where they forced Christianity of people via torture, fear, and death
