It's basically the same as back then. Admittedly given how bad the direction the series has been after Super Paper Mario I am not surprised the early reviewers had this at 9+/10 early on.

Tbh it is a good comfort simple RPG. Honestly I preferred the Mario RPGs over Pokémon minus the last 2 Mario & Luigi games as beginner RPG's.

I love this game but how is this shyt getting 10s and 9s. And running at a lesser frame rate than its GameCube counterpart. I mean we were just shytting on that MGS collection not to long ago. For doing the same thing but when Nintendo does it it’s ok.

If they fixed origami king’s battle system it would be great too

I thought the 2nd was about as good as the 1st when it dropped, but for a few years now the online consensus is that the 2nd is easily the best PM game.

I mean the 2nd one from a gameplay aspect builds on everything the first one did and some more. Honestly I feel like the 2nd ways had higher highs in terms of the chapters.

Twilight town & Glitzille chapters were some of my favorite chapters personally.

I get that, they built off of the first one so it is better in that sense I suppose. It must just be the nostalgia because I could play Tubba Blubba castle 100x.

This game is a masterpiece

It's easy as hell but I'm playing with my son and we're smiling and laughing the whole time. Writing is great, scenarios are fun, amazing art and music
