Roach: Mayweather Tasted Defeat, He'll Taste It Again!

By Edward Chaykovsky

Trainer Freddie Roach is not focusing on the obvious fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) is undefeated. Roach is training Manny Pacquiao for his WBC/WBO/WBA welterweight unification bout with Mayweather. The pay-per-view fight takes place on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao is the underdog in the contest, but there is a lot of money coming down on the Filipino star. Mayweather suffered several defeats as an amateur. As a professional, he's lost very few rounds in the last couple of years. Styles make fights and Roach is confident his fighter has the style to win.

"I am very confident that I have the guy who's going to beat this guy. Everybody keeps saying that he's undefeated but you have to remember that he lost in the Olympics, he lost in the amateurs. He wasn't the best amateur in the world. I don't think he ever won the nationals. He tasted defeat before and he'll taste it again," Roach said.

The last time Mayweather had a very rough time in the ring was when he moved up to junior middleweight for the very first time, in 2007, to win a split decision over Oscar De La Hoya. Roach worked De La Hoya's corner for that fight.

"I think we won the first six rounds. I thought it should have been a draw. Oscar got away from the jab and Mayweather started setting up traps and Oscar walked into them. We're ready for that. We have a game plan and Manny will avoid those traps," Roach said.

Man, Floyd aint "tasted defeat" since he was 19. Please dont go use an Olympic amateur loss as your gameplan:camby:

Ok how come Mr paceman didn't knockout Marquez, and Bradley

Thats irrelevant. Ali didnt KO Frasier or Norton, but Foreman KOd both of them.

Ali KOd Foreman.

Styles make fights. Mayweather isnt Marquez or Bradley. ABC theorys dont work in the sweet science. Ill speak more about my prediction May 3rd. Just remember what I said.

roach out here sounding delusional as fukk
im loving it:blessed:
Well I gotta say
he's speaking facts.. Floyd has taken a loss.. im sure Floyd remembers it and its in the back of his mind... I hope Floyd goes for the KO, or is at least confident enough to go for the KO.. we hope he's agressive... Hope he has Ariza Shakes, Memo Cocktails, enough Xylo on deck... anything to compensate.. We want PBF back.. Tired of Lance Armstrong

If you're gonna be in Vegas for the big fight ... and you're not at an MGM property ... you will be out of luck -- because MGM honchos are blocking competitors from showing Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Here's what we know ... MGM has an exclusivity deal which blocks rival hotels on the Vegas Strip from showing the fight -- and that includes in-room, in bars, in the casino ... anywhere.

Of course, the fight is happening at the MGM Grand on May 2nd -- and clearly, the company is looking to completely corner the local market.

We contacted several non-MGM properties which confirmed the blockage -- and a rep for a major rival hotel told us - "We aren't able to air the fight, that's true. And our guests won't be able to have it in-room either. It's a contract the MGM has. Unfortunately, it blacks out non-MGM properties."

Vegas is expecting hundreds of thousands of people to come in to town for the fight -- and now it seems they'll all have to fight for space at one of the MGM's 14 Vegas properties. Good luck.
