Yeah. While the M.I. romps are pure escapism, I don't see much appeal in the Ethan Hunt character at all for the reasons you've mentioned. Outside of being the good guy, there's nothing much from him to root for as a character.

At least with John McClane, he has that "everyman" quality while being laden with everyday problems that viewers immediately identify with in some fashion or another. He actually bleeds and makes us believe his victories were at least a chore to overcome while comin out like a BAUCE! :blessed:

John McClane gets my vote.

The thing I loved about the Die Hard 1 & 3 is that McClane wasn't 'sposed to win but that he made it all emotional, bruised and sarcastic made it like :myman:

John John Phenomenon wins EVERY TIME! :blessed:

walkin bare foot thru glass like a champ:banderas:
Hell Vengeance is my favorite of them all. Maybe that's the native son in me coming out because it was in the NYC but that shyt was magical from start to finish.

The Gruber Brothers were arguably the GOAT villians ever.:wow:

It's kind of a cheat answer to the topic, but Mission Impossible. The brand itself started in the 60's, without Cruise. While he's the face of it now, they could easily restructure it so that someone else is the lead or is the "new" Hunt.

I just didn't feel the ending... it just felt tacked on and was better off closing with the ship fight
