Has the best chance to live on 20 years down the line like James Bond?

The Jack Ryan reboot didn't really take. Hard to see anyone else being John McClain but Willis, though I'm sure people thought the same of Sean Connery at that time.

I personally don't know if the concepts of Bourne and Die Hard lend themselves....but the Mission Impossible franchise.....maybe..just the overall concept of it, if you found the right person it could live on. And I'm not even a huge fan of the franchise.

It just amazes me that the James Bond character has lived on for this many years and is now more popular than ever. Though part of it is they stuck with it even in the down times.

McClane. The only thing that character has against it is people who can't spell his name right.

I think the MI franchise could live on but you need to find the perfect actor.

Ethan Hunt and the mission impossible brand and theme will alone add longevity over the others

Possibly mission impossible. But the main issue with all the ones mentioned is that the characters are so identified with certain actors. The way Bond was able to keep going is through constant reinvention, mostly due to a new guy playing him. Die hard has been around for almost 30 years and John McClane has only been played by one guy. By the time Bond was 30 years in, he'd been played by four guys already.

Jack Ryan possibly could've been it but I don't think that's a character people feel too strongly about one way or the other

I really don't see all the Mission Impossible mentions. Yeah, maybe the concept of the franchise has more longevity to it but as a character McClane is far more timeless than Hunt, a pretty bland character that's been carried by Cruise's star power since day one. There are no complexities to the character outside of the wife they don't even pretend he has anymore.

I'd have to say it'll come down to McClain and Hunt, I'm a Jason Bourne Stan but I don't think his Character is meant to go on Forever.:manny:

Yeah. While the M.I. romps are pure escapism, I don't see much appeal in the Ethan Hunt character at all for the reasons you've mentioned. Outside of being the good guy, there's nothing much from him to root for as a character.

At least with John McClane, he has that "everyman" quality while being laden with everyday problems that viewers immediately identify with in some fashion or another. He actually bleeds and makes us believe his victories were at least a chore to overcome while comin out like a BAUCE! :blessed:

John McClane gets my vote.
